SO I have read a lot about these cages.. What does everyone use for bedding or the material the pigs lay on in them? Ideas..

Newspaper base, layer of towels & then topped off with fleece :)

I find it much easier than using megazorb, paper bedding ect and also a lot cheaper as once its washed it can be used over and over again :)

Boys cage..

Hope this helps!

We use vetbed now in all of our piggies pens - so much nicer for them and I find it really easy to maintain although creates more washing due to the size and thickness. Only pitfall is it can work out expensive if you have a few piggies (we have 12) and need a decent amount to have in use and a clean supply.
In total, think I have bought 50ft and could still do with another 10ft ideally just as spare.
You can get some lovely colours too, we have lilac, pink, mink, heather (almost a wine colour) and the latest, black. Would love blue for the boys so that is next on my list ;)

cage liner's mattress topper and fleece sewn together and i put side's on to stop the poop's going underthe fleece

I use towels and fleeces too. I absolutely like how it's recyclable and the fact that I can have it so colourful and pretty - My pigs popcorns more on fleece too!

i use wonderful cosies and piggy beds (which i bought from members on this forum namely Audioheart and Threelittlepigs and Pepperdog - made from fleece - all cosy warm and snuggly drool:))

the wonderful thing about fleece is - it does not stay wet for long - if they pee on them - for some reason it dries up really quick - even when getting out of the washing machine they are nearly dry its amazing stuff LOL

My piggies love them soooooo much - best purchase ive made ever xx>>>drool

when you guys say fleece, do you mean general normal fleece? Like the same fleece that some jumpers are made out of? Like the fleece I can just buy at a fabric store?

And don't they rip the strings out of the towels?

Thanks! x

I don't know what your thinking of but it's like a sort of strong but soft material, we've got a few blankets of the same material. I think this is the type i use: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.209-3799.aspx .

With mine the towels are under the fleece so they can't get to it but the few times they have they haven't pulled the strings out.

I use puppy pads then fleece over a tarp on the floor. The puppy pads are great at locking away the wet. It's fantastically easy to clean out.

Never thought of puppy pads - how long do they last before you have to replace with fresh ones?

Hi BPDFS ( don't know your name )
I'm using Megazorb at the moment but it's getting quite expensive with 2 C & C cages and 4 guinea pigs. Bought a 2 bags last Thursday and I'm already into the 2nd one so at the moment I'm having a rethink. Thinking of switching to Equiiflax if I can get some ( apparently it goes a lot further ) or alternatively trying fleece. If I do that I'd like to try Vetbed but at the mo think I'll stick with normal fleece as I've spent rather a lot of money on the piggies over the last month or so!

I find if I sweep up poos every day and change out the hay tray mid week I can just change the fleece and replace the puppy pads once a week and there's really no smell. The hay tray is the bit that gets stinky, they just lie in there and pee!

I buy the pads in bulk from ebay.

Just looked on ebay and there's a mindboggling amount of pads available - don't s'pose you mind sharing a link as I'm sure you've done your homework and found the best value for money? I know I'm being lazy but I'm spending far too much time on the computer already and am starting to get RSI in my right index finger! 8:)
Thanks. :)

Hi AndreaJane, sorry, I was away for the weekend so I've only just seen this. I buy from these people http://shop.ebay.co.uk/tendertendercare/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686
and have always found they give excellent service. The pads are sold as puppy pads but are actually bedsheets which have been imported from Germany.
