I bought a load of extra C&C grids (9x9) to make a pen for when it’s time to clean out the guinea pigs’ cage and for floor time. My girls are only small still, and Fluffy walked straight through one of the grids, no problem! I know you have to babyproof a full on C&C cage, so I guess I should have seen it coming really. I was just wondering, what kind of size/weight do they need to be before it’s safe to remove baby proofing? Thanks!

I don’t know what size weight, but when they appear too big to squeeze through. How old are they?

I had a six week old get its head through a grid square once, and it needed help to get it out again, so I would say leave the baby proofing there until 8 weeks at least - maybe 12 even. Better safe than sorry!

Well they’re supposed to be 10 weeks old, but I think they’re younger than that. Fluffy has just reached 270g, and Fuzzy 290g. They’re both quite floofy, so they look bigger than they are! I didn’t think they’d be able to squeeze through, but their floofiness is deceiving!

While all piggies come in different shapes and sizes, those weights do suggest they are younger than 10 weeks.
Definitely keep that baby proofing in place!
