Yesterday morning a guinea pig belonging to someone I know was biting the cage bars to get the attention of the guinea pigs in the next door cage when the bars collapsed trapping his teeth. The owner saw what happened but couldn't get across the room quick enough to stop him pulling 2 teeth out, breaking one off and making another one lose which the vet removed. Piggy had an emergency vet visit, his gums are very cut up and sore.
The type of grid this happened with is the sort with the rectangular narrow spaced bars liked the commercial cages but in a grid form. I have a lot of the C&C grids with square holes, some much better quality than other's. I have checked my grids this morning and found one where the welding has failed which will be thrown away. Please everyone check that the metal your grids are made of is strong enough not to bend and that every joint is strongly welded. I know this is time consuming but it could save a piggy of yours a lot of pain and suffering.

I've got those grids, thankfully the joints on mine are good. And I don't have bar biters. What a shock all round :(

Thank you for sharing, sorry to hear a piggie got hurt.
We have a few of those grids, I will be checking them now.
