C&C Grids?

So, Mr Teapot has joined my girls so that means extra room for them all and i'm warming up more to the idea of a C&C cage.
My initial idea was to just use the grids, cable tied together as a collapsible attached run to their cage as Paula explained he's abit of a Houdini and the grids I currently attached as a run are 34 x 23 cm.
I'm playing around with ideas at the min on their housing, as always.

I was wondering...
Where do you all get your grids from?
Do you use stockist or amazon/ebay?
How much are they roughly?
How many would I need to make a cage big enough for three piggies?

Those cubes look perfect to me :)

The number of cubes depends on if you need a lid and/or base but if you just need sides then a 2x5 would need 14 of the grids and a 3x4 the same amount.

I dont see any reason why you couldnt make it a 3x4 personally.

I was wondering if there was a reason as to why 2x5 is more widely used than a 3x4.
I wondered if it was maybe more length for them to run up and down, but thought that 3x4 would be better as things like there bowls, water and other bits would take up alot of room in a space which is narrow, which is why i'm not too fond of my 120 ferplast, it looks huge, but when it comes down to putting things in the cage, the piggies don't have much room to popcorn! Also thought it might be the shape of the correx, might be more easier to get a correx sheet which is longer width ways rather than height?
 
A 3 x 4 is fine :) I have 3 piggies & have a 5 x 2 but in a "T" shape so, 4 x 2 at one part & then a 1 x 2 in another bit :

I did that to fit my space (awkward window) rolleyes

They still do zoomies & I also give them floor time in the hall :)

Those grids are perfect btw.
 
aw, I saw your cage before Poppy's when I was exploring with fleece, its hugee.

I think that 3x4 would be more suitable for the space that i've got them in really, measuring it up against the 13'' by 9'' cubes I have now, 2x5 would be way too long for me as the pigs are in between my shoe cupboard/piggy storage and ever expanding wardrobe!
but 3x4 gives me enough space to maneuver around them.

The set up now that they have only just lets me into the wardrobe without having to stand in their cage.

I was wondering about correx too, I know that you need to score and fold up the correx sides to make it into a tray, but do you ever get the problem that poo or other bits gets lodged or stuck down the two folds?

I think they are gonna love the 3x4 setup - should give them lots of space to zoom around in :)

I used duct tape on the corner joins of the correx so no pee or poop gets stuck there ..... it (the tape) does need replaced from time to time though ....

Hi,

I think the Correx from Teacrate might be a bit thin (it says it measures 2mm in thickness). Mine is 4mm thick and you can score and bend it and it remains sturdy. I think you will find the 2mm type a bit flimsy.
I got my correx on e-bay. I bought a bulk lot of pieces that were about 800mm by 1100mm, which was not big enough for my cage, but i just joined them with strong duct tape and it has been fine.
Like Candyfloss, I also use duct tape along the joins and it works perfectly. If it starts to come up at all, it's easily replaced.
I have 4 piggies in a 2 by 4 two level cage. It was meant for 3, but i "rescued" our 4th piggy from a pet shop. I am planning to extend it soon.
That's the great thing about C&C grids, you can change them and extend them to suit your room or number of piggies.
What i have also found, is if you plan to have a lid (we have cats so a lid is a must), you will find the whole structure much more sturdy if you also put a floor of grids at the bottom. This strengthens the sides and keeps the whole thing more symetrical. Last year i just had sides and a lid and i was forever fixing panels back into place where they'd popped out. Now i have a floor of grids, this doesn't happen.

Trying to get my head around measurements!

For a 3x4 cage, the measurements of the grids should be 41'' x 56''.
This means I need correx which is atleast 53'' x 68''

Teacreates correx is 78'' x 39''
I've been having a look to see if I can find any big enough, but looks like ill need to use some duct tape otherwise. :)
 
my cage on the video is 120cm x 120cm and I joined two sheets together with greenhouse sealing tape
 
I'm also considering C&C but wondering what is included in the £30 link. ie, how far would you get with it?

I did yes :-) didn't like bending to sweep the square was killing the backso I bought a cage , my rabbit lives in the doggy pen now

I <3 the ferllast cage, I am getting another for my girls when I have spare pennies !
 
How did you all manage to duct tape together? Did it effect the bending of the walls or anything? :)

I've got a ferplast 120, and I like it alot more than the Skyline maxi and other cages. Its the huge opening door that makes it alot easier to get into rather than a tiny square. But i've found them to be really narrow. Other than that, id recommend to anyone. :)

Nope it didnt, I just build it and bent it all then stuck it all together afterwards. The pigs rip the tape off the joints

I thought that would be the case mallethead
My pigs have got a problem with all black plastic, they just want to eat it.
 
My boys ate the correx, another reason I put them in the ferplast 140. My girls now have the half chewed correx that used to belong to the boys and they dont bother chewing it!

My piggies have a little nibble at the correx sometimes too. They haven't managed to rip the duct tape off, but most of it is under the fleece. I bought a really heavy duty white duct tape from B&Q and it seems to have stayed on pretty well. You can see pics of my cage in my introductions thread.
I also found the guineapig cages website helpful for tips and pictures of other peoples cages.

I just got my first grids today. I am not sure of the conversion rate, but I got 17 girds for $20 us dollars from a local hone decor store. Found them in the closet/ storage solutions sections. I have three pigs, Max and Ruby who are bonded, and Reily who hasn't been successfully introduced thanks to myself. I have 2x5, and sectioned it off, Reily is in the 2x2 section, and Max and Ruby are in the 3x2 section. I am hoping it is temporary as they all seem to getting along through the grids and popcorning about all day. I may try adding another level they are all together, since I will have 2 extra grids to spare once I take down the divider.

I suppose to stop them chewing it, I could always use fleece drapped over the correx like poppy's and secure it down. I've 'borrowed' a few clips from work to secure the fleece over the sides of the correx.

My grids were due for dispatch today and its coming to my work address so I won't miss them. :)
i'm excited that my piggies will have lots of room to popcorn around in.

Just need to sort out buying some correx and then to get some tape to fit it all together. Has the members offer expired on teacrate? When going to the check out and entering 'guinea' it will not accept it?
 
Hayley I'm gonna send you info on correx, need to get my computer logged on as i'm using my phone at the mo.

The last place I got a good deal on 4mm correx, comes in pack of 5. Thought if you wanted we could split it and save money?
