So I've got grids and connectors and I've made the outside of the cage up- but how do I connect the bottom grids? If I do it the same way I've done round the outside it won't be a flat base to put correx in? And if I turn them there will be a gap from the connectors to the grids floor?

I've also just thought- does the bottom need to have grids if I'm putting correx in?

if it is flat on the floor you don't need grids underneath. The connectors will be higher but to combat this you could use cable ties to connect grids so flat. One of mine is cable ties and the big one is connectors but I don't use correx, I use a ground sheet under mine. With the grids you are saving from the floor you could make a loft. Loads of tutorials on youtube.Hope this helps.

For some reason when I cut my large bit of correx it was a bit smaller so fitted in flat without touching the connectors. The lofts on the other hand were a different story and I've basically squished them in and they're maybe not all flat in but they're near enough! I think*it's the gaps between the grids that made the main bit bigger than I'd calculated. There are one or two bits I've had to cable tie together because the connectors wouldn't fit - it works just as well :)

Hope this helps

I've made it into a 5x3 with no base as I'll be using correx an then a 3x1 loft.. I still have 5 grids left but can't expand it much more because of space- would a 3x2 loft be a good idea? I'll probably use two of the grids to make a ramp for them so that would use all 5 grids up?

I got a sheet of 8x4 correx and it's not big enough so I need to get another sheet at the weekend. I love the cage it's huge!

Sounds amazing! I'd say a 2x3 loft could create problems with access underneath it - I have one bit in mine that is really difficult to get to due to ramp positioning, I can imagine trying to get into the far corner under a 2x3 would be really tricky! If your piggies are as contrary as mine are they will find the most awkward place as their toilet!

Thank you! I'll stick with a 3x1 lol. Can't wait to get the correx ordered and get it all put together properly

lol...i'm actually so excited for you...and of corse Jett, Tiger and Mickey :D Cant wait to see the finished result...it looks great already :D

I've just worked out I have enough correx to make the base with 3" sides- are these sides too low?

Really?! That's amazing! I was going to buy another 8x4 sheet just to make the sides 6" as for some reason that's what I thought they had to be! lol. Thank you jenny ;)

nope i think its just a suggested height... i know someone who has 3 inch sides for their piggie...think they are on this forum....its just some piggies wee up the sides etc so thats why 6inch is an aprox size.
And also i think if your using bedding rather than fleece its easier to kick out 3 inch sides than 6 inch... x

Thank you! :) we're going to cut the correx to fit tomorrow night :) woop! How many times should I wash the fleece for it to wick? Do I need to wash the incontient sheet? I'm thinking of looking at vetbed aswell but may use fleece for now as it's cheaper

How exciting Kelly! Agreed, i always wash at least 3 times... and white vinegar helps it wick etc. It's worth washing the sheet, because most of them increase absorbency with each wash .

3 times on a hot wash or cold?
I was going to get a litter tray for hay or something- not really sure yet. I have made a 3x1 loft so I was going to have that as their hay room

I do mine on a 40 degree wash, because my liners are only washable at 40 degree. Best to check if you still have the labels on etc. :) But 1 40 should be safe for most fleece etc :)

Good idea about the hay loft, but also worth having a litter tray and a hay rack on the bottom floor (in-case they don't like the ramp or if they want to be away from the other piggies :) x

Hi Kelly, I bought litter trays from Poundworld which fit into a 1x1 grid perfectly and the pigs are using them as a toilet and as a hay hidey without any effort on my part!
