Hello, I have decided to order my c + c cage :<>

I just wanted to ask what people thought of the plastic grids? Like these:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123#ht_2581wt_1037

I have ordered the pink ones. I have ordered 4 cubes. also would i be able to make a lid with these ones? or would it be best to make a lid out of something else? It's just cause I have 2 beagles and whilst the chance of them getting to them is very low I just dont want to risk it. so unless i can sort a table for it to go on i will have to have a lid. :) (i may be able to sort a table though!

Also how on earth do you make levels? EEEP ")

I am going to make this for three pigs atm, but how big does it have to be for 3 and how big for five (i may like to put my babies in, in the future, when they are fully grown)

Thankyou x

Those really aren't suitable for making a C & C sorry :red They are much smaller than regular grids.

People on here have ordered them before & had to send them back. If you can cancel the order before they are sent, try to order these ones:

http://www.wayfair.co.uk/Safco-Wire-Cubes-in-Black-5279BL-SAF1061.html

They have the correct spacing & sizing for making a C & C, you can then make different levels which i don't think is possible with the plastic ones.

This site shows you how to make a C & C & what materials you need, what size for how many piggies etc:

http://www.guineapigcages.com/

If you have very young piggies, you will need to double up the grids so they don't get their heads stuck in the grids, or make the correx higher whilst they are younger.

HTH :)

You really do not have to make it complicated. I have one level and do not even use correx. I do not see the point in it. It is easier for me to clean without it. I got my grids from amazon. I have an 8 by 3 for four piggies. It would be fine for five too.

I was just cause I had seen a few people with them in their cages on the gallery, they are 14.5 inches high so about 37 cm. How tall do they have to be? x

14 inches would be fine, did you mail the seller to double check the size of them? I can only see where it states the size for the whole thing I think? The ones other people found were these I think?

[ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/INTERLOCKING-SHOE-ORGANIZER-RACK-PAIRS/dp/B0011YAZV8/ref=sr_1_5?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1335019837&sr=1-5"]INTERLOCKING SHOE ORGANIZER/SHOE RACK for 16 PAIRS: Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home[/ame]

Which aren't really suitable. Maybe yours are different? The trouble is using cable ties, you may have to make holes in them to fix the ties.

Yeah I mailed him just to make sure, also cause I wanted pink not blue :))

I'll mail to double check the sizing of each cube x

Just to add personally I don't think it would be so nice to have a plastic lid on the cage, you may find the piggies will get very hot in the summer, as the plastic sides & lid will hold the heat in, which could be a real danger to them. If you use those plastic cubes, I would look into making a lid with grids to help ventilation. Also if you have dogs, the cage needs to be fairly strong so use cable ties and the connectors or instead of the connectors. If you raise it up onto a table or something as well that would be lots safer rolleyes

Thats what I thought :/ I'm cancelling my order cause it defo doesnt look 14.5 inchs. espech when you look at the size of the cd!

I agree with Poppy'sMum about the grid situation. I got mine from wayfair, the delivery was really quick and they are great quality. You get 20 grids for £30, which is a little expensive, but worth it.

Oh my goodness I just noticed that too! :...

If I was you I would tell them their measurements were misleading, as they can't possibly be 14 inches square.

Try to order these, they have free p & p :

Or the same on Amazon if you search Safco wire cubes :)

I'm so glad I posted on here, the bloke was really misleading with the sizes, i never wanted to put the plastic on the top as I was scared they weren't going to be able to breath! lol ") Thankyou to everyone that has helped me out! :)

I've cancelled the order, so I am going to order some grid ones now. It's just the p+p thats a killer! x

I agree with poppys mum.
I bought these, just to give you another option, i made 2 pens, both 4x2 with about 2 spair so if you're making one pen you'll have plenty to do one with a lid, you could cable tie the back edge and use bull dog clips for the front where you want to lift the lid up.
I use them for the opening doors on mine and they're secure :)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360368204697?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
if you're not desperate then I'd keep an eye on them as the price fluctuates depending on stock (for some reason) I paid £38.99 for mine.

Thankyou :) I'm not desparate for them, just wanted them bought so i dont spend the money :red lol! :) :) what i also am thinking of doing regarding the dog situation, is if i cant get hold of a table on the cheap, i will put the lid on the cage and a baby gate just to be sure. My dogs are lovely dogs but you just cant be too careful! they are hunting dogs too.. allthough they look through the cage at my bunny wagging their tails I'm sure they are still thinking lunch! rolleyesrolleyes There is a very small chance they willl get in but better to be safe than sorry! x

If you have a look at this video & also the other videos they have posted, there are tips for making a strong cage :

The only thing you have to watch if you have very young piggies are that they don't get stuck in the grid squares, so if they are young, double up the grids to make the holes smaller until they grow :)

I have ones like these, but mine came in a pack with ones double this size, and these small ones. They are absolutely fine for making a C&C cage, so don't worry about sending them back or anything. They have little holes in each corner perfect for cable tying them together.

You probably won't be able to make a lid because it would be too dark as they are semi-opaque, so you're best off getting a table to put the cage on.

This is my cage, like this it works out to be 140 cm by 80 cm, but I extended it to 180 cm by 80 cm.

Hope this helps!

Just saw your post saying you cancelled your order, whoops!

Thankyou I'll have a nosey at that now :)

I wont be putting my babies in till the are fully grown as one of my females thinks she can pick on them cause they are young (little mare) Its not for definate I just want to keep the option open, just depends on how well they get on when they are older! My older sow only seems to pick on them cause they are small she teeth chatters, and nips (they are separate now) shes usually very very timid of other pigs. and the submissive one, so hopefully she will be better when they are older. just going to see what happens. x

The best thing about the C & C grids is that you can customize the space, so if you have a pair that gets on, you can section the cage & make a semi detached space for Mrs Grumpy who could see but not nip then :)

The babies are sisters and love each other to bits :)

Then there is bowie hendrix and lennox. lennox is the alpha female now but it was bowie, hendrix has allways been the lowest (if you know what i mean) I also fear that she was bullied allot at the pet shop as she has ripped ears :( this is maybe why she is picking on them cause they are young and she has more of a hold on them with them being small. (she got a telling off from lennox when she did) lol I just hope when they are older hendrix will be more wary of them and wont pick on them so then they will all get on if you know what i mean. i shall just have to see what happens. if the nipping is due to her being older, i hope it will get sorted out when they are large! :) she is a definate mrs grumpy! she reminds me of them old women when you were young that used to come out and shout at kids haha x
