C & C Ideas Needed :)

I currently own 8 guinea pigs, 3 sows and 5 boars (one neutered who lives with the girls). My herd of 4 live in a homemade cage which is about 2 x 4 with a 2 x 2 level (in grids). I have made lots of space in the room they live in and I have been considering building them a C & C cage because there is 4 of them and I think they would appreciate the space! At the moment they live next to a separated male and a pair of males - I am a little concerned because the pair of males are starting to get quite dominant with one another, perhaps this is because of the girls? If I build a C & C cage it will be at the opposite end of the room and it probably won't bother them as much. This is an image of their current cage: P1080938.webp

Does anyone have any recommendations on what shape/size I should build it? Or should I not build it and leave them where they are now? The maximum amount of grids I can fit for the length using the connectors is 6. I would rather build it bigger than smaller because there is a possibility that I might get a bigger herd in the future and I don't want to rebuild it once it's finished :) x
 
2 by 4 is the minimum for two guinea pigs. For four I would increase the cage. I have four guinea pigs in an 8 by 3 c and c and would not go smaller. Guinea pigs need a lot of space.
 
Hay lofts are great but they don't add to overall size so the bigger you can go on the bottom the better, as Piggyfan says.
 
Sounds good to me. You could always try an L shape cage to save on space. I find c&c cages perfect however the bigger you go the more costly and time consuming it becomes so much so that you end up never spending time with the piggys but always sorting the cage.

Have you considered putting them in a shed outdoors this way you can easily attach a run? If keeping them indoors it is more work cleaning etc

I like the idea of an L shape. They actually live in a room outdoors, it's not really a shed though (if that makes any sense) :)
 
Awww wow that sounds great already. I think it is a wonderful space where the imagination can run wild if need be :)
