Hi Was wondering whether anyone kept their piggies in this type of cage in a shed, as all the pics seem to be inside.

I was wondering whether this type of set up would be ok to keep in shed (well its a wooden cabin). Not sure whether they'd be too exposed to the cold (even with loads of fleece / tunnels etc ) or whether theyd be more protected within a traditional hutch.

What do you all think?
thanks

I am inclined to say they would be better off in a traditional hutch although I have no experience with C&C cages.

I would worry that they would be exposed to the cold.

Are you able to have them inside at all? How many piggies do you have?

We have two - about 6 months old, possibly could bring them in for the winter, but worried about their body temperature - if they are in the warm, then go out for a run around in their run and back in the warm again. likewise if they go out again april time.

thought it was best to have one or other

Mine are in a 9x2 C&C in a shed and are fine. It has an upstairs too and they can be snug undrneath the upstairs as I've put built in igloos in. :)

As long as they have hay to snuggle into then its not a problem. They are protected from the elements that is the main thing. :)

i think they will be fnie as long as the shed it also well insulated and no draughts. Just give plenty of snuggle areas and lots of hay. you can get snugglesafes too, mine love them!

thank you - do you cover it at night too with a blanket or anything? also does yours have a lid on or is it just open
thanks again

I don't cover of a night but I will be covering the window and doors up. Mine is just open no lid. :)

mine is just open, has two levels like Louises. I wouldnt bother covering it, just as Lou says, cover the windows and door gaps. I would also make sure the floor is well insultated and covered. We get tiny little mice in out shed ( not that the piggies are in the shed) and they can get in the tiniest hole. if you have an open cage you got to be careful. Also the cold can rise from the damp floor/soil from underneath, so maybe line with carpet or something.

My hutch has half and half c&c.

Hello! mine are in C&Cs int he shed, i agree that hutches would probably be warmer but C&Cs allow you more variation with size and shape giving them more room! At the moment mine dont get covered up because its not that cold yet, but i will be gettin blankets or curtains to go over the girds and will be putting cardboard boxes stuffed with hay etc. My she is insulated too but not sure how much difference that makes lol!
The pigs seem happy and lively enough in there, they hated the hutches i tried them in because they were so dark i think.
here's some pics

The hutch is the rabbits, he has the shed floor to run about in too.
