Hi eveyone, i've decided to revamp my C&C cage a little bit after being inspired! I've changed the set up to a 4x4 for the girls with a 3x1 upper level and Ralfies is now a 4x2 with a 2x1 upper level, grid ise that is its probably a bit bigger in feet. Anyway we've also decided to try them on newspaper and hay for a while to see how they go because the cage was constantly looking dirty and messy with the fleece, alhough they've still got vetbed in the upstairs' and on the ramps. We've finished the girls now but they are used to being able to run very fast and cant on the hay because they slip everywhere which is a shame! They won't be able to hurt themselves doing this will they? I think Ralfie will be happier on hay because he loves lying in it and generally doesn't run much never mind fast! I will post pics in a bit when Ralfie's is done :) can anyone recommend a bedding other than megazorb that will let the piggies be able to run round fast but not material like fleece or vetbed?thanks
Love Emma x

Hi Emma,

That's great can't wait to see pics! What is it about Aby's and Hay, Sunshine loves me pouring over his head! 98) What about Aubiose I found a farm that has it in Widnes for £8.00 a bag. There is Care Fresh as well but it is expensive at £3.99 for a small bag which didn't quite fill Cuzzy's Nero 3 when I tried it!

Megazorb is great, you know I've bigged it up today but the downfall is that it is messy, probably better suited to cages with correx to keep it in.

Good luck!

Thanks Louise, i got carefresh for their litter tray and they seem to like sitting on it but it would cost a bomb to fill them cages! I was suprised at how far the hay went, used about a quarter of a big bag for bth cages so one big bag will do 4 changes! I'm going to try megazorb though, the girls seem a bit fed up not being able to wizz round and have gone to bed lol! They have specific places upstairs where they sleep at night :smitten: Bee kicked hay all over Ralfie before while he was asleep, he got the fright of his life then got to eating it ;D the cage seems so empty now! ill have to get them some more stuff tomorrow! and ive used their wooden playstix for around the outside to stop the hay going everywhere until we get correx, pics soon just finishing Ralfie's :) x

Here's the pics :) any suggestions for improvement are welcomed:

ps Ralfie doesn't use his ramp that's why there's nothing on it xx

Hi Emma,

That's brill, can't think of anything else to add but you've just helped me...lol I didn't understand how I could put grids ontop of one another, now I know, the connectors can go side on is that right? I want to make the boys cage two high just incase they feel like escaping next door!

Your cages are great, I love the little beds for the pigs, so cute! And look at them, so adorable, Ralfie is huge, again I think its an Aby thing!

yup the connectors can go side on :) thats how i did it when i was scared of Ralfie escaping but he's too lazy really! he is huge lol but he doesn't weigh that much, when he was healthy he weight 2lb 4oz, about 1040g but now he only weighs 960g :( he's getting better though! the girls don't seem to like the hay really, its making them get narky with eachother! x

I use Medibed and mine love it. You could also use Aubiose but they need something soft in their houses as well :)

Thanks Karen, they don't really go in the houses, the girls use them to stand on and i don't think Ralfies ever been in his, there is vetbed upstairs where they sleep, Ralfie has a square of vetbed for his corner but he doesn't stay on it, what is medibed? I've looked into auboise but i dont know where i'd get it?

You can get Medibed and Aubiose from farm shops. Make sure that it is Medibed (and not Nedz or something else) because they are not good for guineas. Medibed is a short chopped soft straw, mine like to root around in it and sleep in it, but best of all they like Readigrass to sleep on! Give them a pile of Readigrass and a pile of Medibed and they lay on the Readigrass everytime! I'm sure its because they like to lay down and eat, they're the same with Vetbed- never use it given the choice- save for Angel who will always retire to the fiddlestix with the Vetbed ::)

I will have a root round in my local farm shops then :) Ralfie loves hay to lie on but the girls have their 'spots' where they sleep, Bumble under the big playstix upstairs and Bee at the top of the ramp, they popcorn a lot more on vetbed but i think it's because it's bouncy upstairs ;D i will definately look into medibed though sounds good! x

Made by Dengie :) Medibed just found these suppliers, never used them. £4.99 isn't bad for delivery though :)

Hi Emma,

I found a farm shop in Widnes that supplies Aubiose I'll try and find it again I know it was in Bold Heath. Also you could try Hammond Feeds in Huyton they do Megazorb so will probably do Aubiose too. The shop in Widnes was £8.00.

Thanks Loiuse, you did say about the farm shop in huyton sorry i forgot! Will get the OH to have a ring round in a bit :) the girls dont seem to like going downstairs now and are getting on eachothers nerves being in the little space upstairs lol so I'm guessing they dont like the hay! as for the litter tray they've just pushed it out of the way and gone in their corner lol!
Still better than them doing it anywhere i suppose! x

Aww bless, I bet it feels quite strange for them to walk on hay when they have been used to fleece. Let us know how you get on with th aubiose will be handy to know incase there is a shortage of Megazorb. :)
