Can anyone help?All 4 of my piggies have decided they won't eat savoy cabbage (they will eat the outside dark green leaves but not the inside light green ones ) I have even tried it myself to check it tastes OK and it's fine,was wondering if there are any cabbages you can buy that are dark green all the way through or maybe an alternative, they have a very varied diet and I alternate between the veggies during the week,but as cabbage has always been a firm favourite was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions?

Hi Sammy,

Cabbage does generally go lighter as you go further in to it. I get my spring greens because it has been 34p in Aldi but now it has gone up to 64p so still cheaper that most stores.

Thanks louise will give them a go ,I have bought them before but they had already been sliced and were in a bag and I find they don't last very long when bought like that (kale is the same )I love spring greens so if they don't eat them they won't go to waste ;D ;D
 
i use spring greens because mine are the same, light green leaves simply will NOT do lol

spring greens tend to go off quicker though, and therefore do become yellow quicker than others :)
 
They do Spudnik, I made the mistake of not putting mine in the fridge and they went off quicker than if I fridge them. I find I only have to give one leaf per pig as when I have given 2 they don't eat them.

Courgettes are a good source of vit c too and Aldi have 3 for 64p although mine went mad at me as they thought it was cucumber...lol

I don't know why all of a sudden they won't eat them? It's all of them...I could understand if it was one or two ,thats why I tasted it incase it had gone funny ? I don't mind doing an extra veg shop in the week as long as they are happy :smitten:
 
Mine used to be fussy and I'd go mad and go out and buy all the things they like. But I stopped as it was running too expensive. They know now if they don't eat what they are given there is no more for the day or night. Although they love the hay the best. Only costs me £1.85 for a big bag of Timothy Hay that lasts a week for the 5 of them. :)
 
oh thats good, mine get nice hay from a local farm they do huge bags of it for £1.95 and it lasts me ages and ive got 7 of them to feed!

mine have a few leaves of cabbage at a time because ive got 7, they get like half a cabbage between them per feed.

mine wont touch courgette either!
 
Am I pampering too much ? I feed them veggies twice a day plus hay forage and pellets,I always take out what hasn't been eaten before I put fresh in?
 
i feed mine once a day with fresh food, and they have a constant supply of dry food and hay..

i used to feed twice a day but i stoppped when i got a job because I'm too busy in a morning to be cuttig up veg, but they get their food bowls filled up and hay given etc..
 
I feed twice a day, 3 lots of veg and then another 3 for the night. I top up food bowls at lunch time and give them more hay with their evening meal usualyl by then it is gone. I'll top up dried mix if they need it doing again.

When I start uni it will probably be once a day but 6 different veggies, for now they are happy with this set up. I did try once a day and reducing the amount but it upset them so we went back to the twice daily.

I think it's just finding a balance that works. :)
 
I used to do once a day (veg) and just top up hay etc in the evening ,but they made so much noise at about 4 o'clock they now have "tea time" too ::)
