Hello everyone!

We’re getting two new piggies in December so I’m doing some research about cages and equipment.

We’re planning to keep them indoors, and I do really like the idea of a C&C cage / my question is what do you do when you go on holiday? Do you have friends pop in to care for the GPs, it do you take them to stay with a friend - if so, is it a pain to dismantle and reassemble the cage?

Thanks in advance 😊

C&c are easy to take apart. The connectors just pop on and off. For security the grids can be cable tied together. The cable ties mean that the grids just concertina up (as long as you leave two grids untied so you’ve got two ends if the grids were in a line - if that makes sense!) and move about very easily! A correx base For a c&c obviously isn’t so easy to move but using a sheet of plastic works just as well for temporary moves. My boys live in my shed but I have a c&c playpen which I use indoors during the summer months (to get them out of the heat), so I just unfold the plastic sheet, unfold the cage, pop connectors back on and they have their indoor playpen within minutes!
There is always the alternative of a fold up puppy pen (often made from fabric) for temporary use for holidays when staying with someone else.

Whether somebody comes to check on them or whether they go to stay with somebody is up to you. However, piggies can go from being fine to being ill within a matter of hours so being checked on only twice a day for example, means that a problem could be missed, so from that perspective to have them go and stay with someone means that any problems can be picked up much more quickly.

Welcome, good that you are planning ahead! When we go away I usually bribe my daughter to stay at ours and look after the piggies, but we have also had another forum member's piggies come to stay with us and bring their whole C&C plus correx with them! They had a slightly smaller cage for the duration (I think it was 5x2 or 6x2 without their extra 2x2 extension) but it worked fine. I've not come across an official boarder local to me who would have space for my main C&C set up but it is rather big with 6 piggies who like their home comforts and wont compromise! I think it depends how long you go away for and how good your family/friends/local pet sitter are, and how accomodating your local boarders are about space, whether you feel you need to move them and their cage elsewhere.
