So both of my pigs seen to really love their cage, they enjoy a bit of time out but seem to enjoy the familiarity and safety of their home. The only problem is one of the pair (wesely) will climb the cage to get back in. He's got in multiple times but never made any effort to get out
Just wondering if anyone else experiences this or has any input/advice/can point out anything I could be doing wrong

Just got info the cage height is taller than him when he stretches up on his hind legs (about 1 1/2 the height of him) so he really does try to get back in. It's normally at this point (or before it gets to this point) that I'll plop him back in the cage as I don't want to stress him

I also some time make a bridge they can climb to get in and out of the cage when they're out for floor time so they have the ability to go home if they wish

@MarMar I think some pigs just like to be somewhere that they know, or be close to their food. I used to have a pig that would spend a bit of time with us downstairs for floor time, and if I wasn't watching him he'd go back upstairs to his cage! He was very outgoing to I don't think he was scared about being out with us.

Pigs can jump quite high and I've seen quite a few jump in and out of their cage before, but if you're worried at all then giving him a bridge will prevent any injuries if he lands awkwardly.

Thank you so much for the reassurance. He ended up escaping (stayed around the cage though) so I've made it harder for him to get out and added more hides and toys to his cage in the hopes that he was a little bored and looking for some excitement.
He does seem to be coming out of his shell a bit more which I'm glad about
Just don't really fancy a loose piggies in the house

One of my piggies once escaped but then sat next to the cage terrified. Since then I used to leave some hay on the floor as I was afraid she’d get out again and not have anything to eat until I’d be back after work. Luckily it was a one off incident (she got a bit over enthusiastic and accidentally jumped out) but if you think it may happen again it may be worth leaving some hay near the cage.

My too love going outside on the grass in their hutch with run but have never really liked floortime inside. If I place them on the lounge carpet (only place they will move, everywhere else is wood flooring which they hate and just freeze) all they do is come up to my feet or OH’s and try climb up your legs. So your not alone, they are happy to have laptime and nibble their blanket to be put back for a pee. They would definitely try and get back in their indoor cage if it was at floor level, I think they like what they are used to and familiar with!

Ah yeah, I generally leave the hay bag on the floor near the cage and when they're out for floor time they definitely know where it is, no worries they'd go hungry if they got out 😂 managed to secure the cage so hopefully therell be no more escapee piggies

I have some piggies that enjoy the occasional potter around th roaming floor, but after 5-10 minutes, they are gnawing the grid door even if I have not finished yet cleaning their cage! Others have a dance and a run as soon as they are let out...

Just give them the choice of where they want to be and accept that piggies are very much individuals with their own quirks!

We have a cage with a fold-down door so the pigs can go in and out... they have a big blocked off hallway to wander in, but honestly go back 'home' if I don't put treats out for them in the hall. If it's possible to make it safe for them to come and go they may appreciate that... as an added bonus, my pigs only go to the bathroom at home so giving them the ability to go back in to pee has saved me a lot of carpet shampoo money!
