I wanted ideally an open top cage so I basically took the Ferplast Cage top wired part of the cage off turned it upside down and popped the bottom tray inside.
I then did up the sides and doors with cable ties (making sure you cut the cabletie ends facing outwards)
I felt it was a better way for the piggies to build trust with the kids and I was Lucy as they weren't the escaping type. The wire surround is still quite high.
So it worked for them but when it came time where I'd put the older ones in a new cage and then came along some baby Abbersinian guinea pigs in they were a little more energetic 😂 and one morning I found one of them. In the plastic hay feeder looking chuffed with himself, so easy enough I put the cage back to normal. But a good hack if you want that option and it works for your pig/s xx
The white cage was one I made with an ikea desk top £20, plastic table cloth £6 and some old wooden doors and picture frames. I drilled them all together and cut the wood with my drop saw buylt you may be able to find wood at your local hardware store the size you need or some stores can cut to size for you. X

Actually they are both very clever cage hacks.
Please consider adding them to our homemade cage thread, as I am sure they will be useful to others.

These look great both simple and effective, I like the use of picture frames- what did you put across them? Wire mesh, perspex or something else?

Temporarily the glass is still in them, but I'm waiting on the 6mm plastic to arrive in the post. I didn't want to use wire mesh as I'd of had sharp ends of the wire everywhere. X

Still ingenious! Good luck, would love to see it once it's finished with piggies living in it😊
