Hi, I'm quite new to Guinea pigs so plz bear with me. I started off using fleece but was having to sweep it out twice a day because of all the poo. Also I was worried about my washer getting clogged up with all the hay. I have now switched to straw. So I put a thin layer of back to nature bedding down first. And then a good lot of straw on top. I'm hoping this will last 2 days. Does this sound OK?

I have a few piggies in the past and know a bit about them this sounds ok but it depends on the type of straw and if it is safe. With fleece liners, you can shake all of the poo and hay into a trash bag and go to the woods, shake it out and then wash it.

Also on side note are your pigs outside, how many do you have, and yes I think it will last for 2 days but may get a bit worse at the end of day 2

Guinea pigs shouldn’t be bedded on straw. It’s too sharp and not part of their diet.

You need to take out the wet areas and poo pick with disposable bedding as well.

@Latte straw isn’t recommended for guinea pigs. Only hay.

It's golden barley straw and I have 2 piggies. I bought the straw from hay box along with their feeding hay. Maybe I should just go back to fleece then.
They are kept inside.
Thanks guys for your input. I do appreciate it

As said straw if any kind isn’t suitable for them. You can still use the back to nature bedding and put their hay piles on top. You don’t have to go back to fleece if you didn’t like it. But you do need (I assume) quite a thick layer of it.

Have a look at the bedding thread for other disposable bedding you can try. I recommend aubiose or woodshavings.

For your washing machine you can buy a pet laundry bag from Amazon this will catch all the hay and protect your washing machine!

I have a pet wash bag for my fleece, yes hay will break your washing machine as it did mine because my son thought he was being helpful putting it in the machine but didn't even shake it off let alone put it in the pet bag....
The pet bag is a lifesaver with the fleece and basically any of my pets bedding and toys (I have a mini petting zoo it seems!) So that would be a good investment to save your washing machine even tho I do shake everything off hay and hair seem to stick to all the pets stuff! I got the orange pet wash bag off Amazon and it wasn't very expensive.

Even with disposable bedding your still meant to do poo patrol but I've found fleece easier as with my quartet I pick up their fleece and shake it into a bin bag then put it back altho with my 2 separated boars I use a dust pan and brush as they don't make as big of a mess as the 4!
