Cage size etc..

We have answered your questions on cage size many times on your other thread.

No, three piggies cannot live in a 2x4 regardless of whether it’s sows or a sows and a neutered boar - a 2x4 is only big enough for 2 piggies

2x4 - 2 pigs
2x5 - 3 pigs
2x6 - 4 pigs
2x7 - 5 pigs

Cage Size Guide
Sorry I forgot that I had asked these questions before.

I think you first have to decide which way you’ll go - either bonding the boar with another, or neutering him and getting him a sow. this Will decide the housing, because it’s best that a boar pair isn’t within smelling distance of the sows. Another thing you have to consider is that, (I think) in general, when a boar has been with sows then they’re not likely to want to be with a boar. Someone more knowledgeable can confirm that.

So thi k which you want to go for then you can think about housing etc.

No.
Boars can live in a maximum of a pair together, but they must have enough space.

Sows can live in larger groups with or without a neutered boar but they need an increasing cage/space size the more you want to keep as a herd.
So if you just have boars they need lots of space?

But if you keep sows with a boar then you have to go up a grid? So for e.g you could have two sows in a 2x5 with one boar or three sows in 2x6 and one boar am I right?

Yes. Any combination of sows & boar will fit in with the recommended number for the size. Boar pair has to be in 2x5 or bigger.

One sow and one boar or two sows - 2 piggies in the cage in total - can have a 2x4
Two sows and a boar or three sows together - 3 piggies in total - need a 2x5
Three sows and a boar or four sows together - 4 piggies in total - need a 2x6

However, if you had two boars, they cannot go in a 2x4. Two boars together need a 2x5 or bigger

I am thinking my neutered boar in with a baby sow in a 2 x 4 c and c cage in maybe same room or different room. Whats min size in cm for one boar one sow? Might use different cage that's why I am asking this.

120x60cm. You can stack cages, no need to house in a different room if it’s a sow/boar pairing. Are they outside? And remember its character and not age that matters

I see got you, I always thought that if you had a group of sows and then a boar that you still had to go up a grid size? So as long as you don't have two boars together or to many boars to sows ratios then it doesn't matter about going up in cage size, so if you only have one boar then just stick to the rules of so many pigs in that size cage.

Well if you have sows and the right size cage for that amount of sows, and then add another piggy regardless of whether it is a boar or another sow, you would need to go up a grid if the cage is only big enough for the number of sows you already had.

you can’t have any more than one boar to any number of sows in any event. It just won’t work, fights will happen if you try to keep two boars in with sows.

No not outside, yes I do understand it's not always age that matters. I am thinking on the lines of a 2 X 4 c and c or a Midwest cage or maybe my previous cage's not totally sure what size it was now, it may not come up to size. That's why I asked.

What is your current setup? I recommend c&c because then you can stack them, and make them fit around the space you have.

Yes that's what I was trying to say not to many boars together.

So four sows in 2 X 6 C and C cage would then have to be a 2 x7 if you added a boar. Like if you had 3 sows in a 2x5 then would need a 2x6 with a boar or you could have two sows in a 2x5 with a boar.

I have 2 X 6 C and C but can't stack them or expand them in any way, going to have to be single cage's unfortunately.

Sorry forgot to ask is 120 X 60 still o.k for a boar and a sow or would a 2 X 4 c and c be better as that's like 140 cm X 2ft and 4 and half inchs?

A 120cm would be ok for a boar and a sow but it is only the absolute minimum size cage for two piggies, a 2x4 c&c would be much better. A 2x4 c&c measures approx 150cm x 77cm

120x60 is the minimum for Two sows or a Mixed pair. But bigger is always better if you can manage it.

Four grids seems to be about 145 cm X 71-73 cm roughly if I go for 4 X 2 c and c cage going by measuring my 2 by 6.

If you cable tie the grids together it would be 142x7q. Most use connectors which will mean there’s a gap between the grids.

Roughly yes - it depends on the grid and connector size (they aren’t all exactly the same) (my grids configured as a 2x4 measure 149cm x 77cm)

It’s a tough guide. You can’t pull them very close together because of the connectors. As long as it’s minimum 120x60 you’re okay.
