Cage size for a neutered boar and four sows.

c&c cages are measured in grids not feet. So when we say a 2x4 we mean 2 grids by 4 grids

A 2x4 c&c measures 150 cm/ 5ft which is big enough for two piggies
A 2x5 c&c measures 180cm / 6ft and is big for three piggies (or two boars)
a 2x6 c&c measures approx 210cm / 7ft and is big enough for four piggies
a 2x7 measures approx 240cm / 8ft and is big enough for five piggies.

(I say approx because grids are generally 35cm, not 30cm, plus when the connectors are on it makes it slightly bigger - eg a 2x6, I think actually measures closer 220cm than 210cm)

a 2ft x 5ft would be the absolute minimum for three piggies. It’s because minimum welfare requirements are a 4ft (120cm) cage for two sows, you then add on a further 2sq ft for additional piggies meaning a 2ft x 5ft would be the minimum for three, but we recommend a 2ft x 6ft (2x5 c&c)

We had a husboar and 4 ladies in a 2x8 C&C space, that suited them very well- it was a 5x2 fleecy area with a 3x2 hayroom added on the side.
I think personalities can dictate the space needed as much as the actual number once you go beyond 2 or 3... we now have 5 ladies and a husboar in an 11x2 space (a 5x2 with 2 additional 2x3 areas) and occasionally when one of the girls is in season... its only just big enough for some big hormonal personalities (Yes Piggle I mean you of course, also Blodwen who is usually quite shy but when she's in season will hump her lady friends the whole 11x2 length and back again!)

Thanks PigglePuggle, I am intending to go to an 8 x 2 c and c cage if I can.

I have a 5x2 with a 4x2 extension to make an L shape.
That was for 3 sows and a husboar.
It’s enough space for some exciting games of chase.

That is exactly the design that I am planning. 5 x 2 with a 4 x 2 extension to make an L shape!

I've got 2 shelving units which are 150cm x 60cm which I'm putting side by side so my neutered boar and his 3 sows will have 3m x 60cm enclosure and my 2 young boars who fell out will be side by side in a 150cm x 60cm enclosure above the others altho I'm not quite there, I've had to feed one critical care as he stopped eating when I separated them as he was at the bottom.of the shelving unit so I've moved him next to his separated brother. I'm going to get them both neutered after Christmas so they can have wives.
