hey! I'm new here.
I have had guinea pigs for over the last two years. I have three male guineas, I have had to separate them because of them fighting. They all get floor time together but at night they are separated into separate cages, two in one cage and the other in a separate cage.
The cages I have are 145cm by 55cm. Is this adequate?
Thanks!

Yes, I think it is but if you kept them together you would need a bigger cage. Hi and :wel:!:)

Welcome to our forum! Yes thats a great size for a pair, minimum is 120cm :) what is your plan for the single boy?

I don't think it is wise to socialise all three in a run, it could upset the bond with the pair. How old are they?

Thanks! I want to upgrade to a c&c cage at some point so they have a larger area to run in. I would like to adopt a neutered sow for him so he isn't alone at night, my partner isn't so keen on the idea. He thinks he is okay getting floor time every day with the other two. I think a concern for both of us is if he doesn't get on with another guinea, thus having to have more cages and more space taken up.

C&c is fab, I'm very much a convert to it! Where are you located, could you add your area to your profile for us? Your best bet is to find a local rescue and organise a 'boar date' for him to be personality matched to a compatible friend. Neutered females are few and far between due to high risks with a more invasive procedure. If he needed a female friend it would be better for the male to be neutered. Would love to see photos of them :)

Hello and welcome!

I really doubt you will managed to find a sow that has been spayed as spaying sows is far riskier than neutering boars. Would you consider neutering your single boar and finding him a girlfriend?

North East Guinea Pig rescue does boar dating?

That could be a good option for you, as at least you'll know that they bond well. I agree with the others I wouldn't have them all out together.

I have three and wouldn't risk my pairs bond, my single boar is going boar dating next weekend at a rescue :)

I'm in the north east of England :) that's a good idea! I will phone my vet and ask for pricing and more information :) I will look into the boar dating! I've never heard of that before. Thank you, you have all been so helpful! Now to persuade the other half =p it shouldn't take much, considering it is for Simon's wellbeing

Hello and welcime.

I would suggest you try boar dating first at North East guinea pig rescue before putting him under an operation if it isn't necessary.

If you are unsuccessful in finding him a boar friend, then neautering would be your next best option.

Please be aware that a boar has to wait 6 weeks post op before going in with a sow to make sure his little swimmers are no longer active :)

Hopefully it won't take much persuading. if you already have 2 cages then you wouldn't need much else for 1 more piggy :)

They are all spoilt guineas and i only want what is best for them! i know my boyfriend does too :) i will have to show him this post and see what he says
