would it be okay (as long as i am sat out with them every time) to just use the top half of an indoor cage from p@h outside on decking with just a blanket rather than a base? sides done up with zip ties etc. finding it hard setting up the base each time with news paper and a woodshaving base but didn’t know if a blanket would be enough? any ideas welcome please!

as i said, this will only be whilst i am with them supervising, cleaning out hutch etc

I don't know if you have foxes in your area, but they can be quick and can work out how to get under a cage side using nose and paws. Catching your piggies afterwards might be tricky.

It would be a risk as it isn’t secure.
And I do agree with above - how will you secure it enough with cable ties, but still maintain access to get them out without them being able to escape?

A blanket (without absorbency underneath) is going to let urine just go through so as long as you don’t mind urine getting onto your decking.

as i said i will literally be sat with them, a fox wont come by if i’m sat right by them so i’m not worried about that. the bit the decking is in is fenced off so again i’m not worried about that being a problem

they run into their house so i don’t think that will be a problem but thank you for raising the concern.

yes thats no problem, its more if its okay for the girls? what is suggested?

If they aren’t in it for long then just a blanket will probably be ok - without absorbency it’ll risk them getting damp feet particularly if they choose to sit in a house and not move about

makes sense!
so what do people normally use if putting them on patio/decking?

The advice would be to put a mattress protector or puppy pads down underneath.
(But generally, they would be in much more secure runs so could be left in there for considerably longer than yours are likely to be able to be in for)
