I was wondering if you can give these to guineas as i have had someone book there pigs into the hotel and when i ask for a run down of the pigs routine, she said every morning the get a small bit of fruit cake and a digestive biscuit with their greens,

i am Very sure this is not good for them,

I wouldn't have thought that's a very good idea :( they can't have dairy can they ? and lots of butter in cakes ..I wouldn't give it to them :P

no i hadn't planned to but i reckon these pigs are gonna be bruisers ;D, they will be on a crash diet when the get to me ;D

i do honestly wonder where peoples heads are when it comes to pets sometime

I'm sure they mean well but they are killing them with kindness! 98)

Wouldn't give them to mine, too much sugar and additives. Meant for humans not pigs!

If biscuits and cakes are bad for humans then poor poor poor wee guinea pigs who get these fed to them.
Some humans can't handle the sugar and additives and we are many many times bigger than them, so what it must do to them.

I feel really sorry for these piggies.

I always assume if they can get it in the wild it is what they need naturally...since there are no biscuits and cakes in the wild I would definitely say no way! My mother always gave her animals people food and they were overweight and died young. You are right about killing them with kindness...

Why on earth do they even comprehend feeding this rubbish anyway? What goes through thier head? ?

Cake and biscuits?! Well, that's a new one on me! ::) I agree, too sugary, fatty and just not good for them. I've hard of people giving their pigs some odd things, but that just takes the biscuit! Boom boom! (okay bad joke) :D

The book is talking nonsense. Throw it out because it's useless.

They can't have cake - too much sugar.

They can't have potatoes - too high in starch and not easily digestible.

They can't have egg or cheese - they are herbivores.

They can't have bread. Again, too high in carbohydrates and white bread is full of treatment agents.

The only thing pigs need for their teeth is good hay. :) I've read similar about rabbits, they can have weetabix! 98)

yes throw it out excellent idea recycle bin here we come oh no started reading another guinea pig care book now called quick and easy guinea pig care and guess what toasted or baked bread again benificial for teeth again and suggests small branches of fruit for teeth and sunflower seeds and peanuts and breakfast cereal and mashes consisting of fresh oats bran add to this chopped boiled egg and grated cheese wont be trying any of this if this is what the books are suggesting i dont know how my oldest girls pinky and perky have survived to 4 yrs old come to that dont know why i have started reading these stupid books

Sounds more like a book on hamsters. If it is on guinea pigs then it's obvious the person who wrote it has never owned nor researched one in their life!

I know what you mean. When I got my first 2 piggies, I didn't know anything at all, but I bought a couple of books. So I then thought myself fairly clued up. Some of the stuff in the books was OK, some was rubbish, but I have learned so much from experience, and also from others' experiences on forums etc over the years. :) I'm always loathe to buy books anymore, as there is much more up to date and useful information online.
