Hi everyone. So recently Callie's urine has been a bit off but I chalked it up to me changing her diet(giving her different coloured peppers(red instead of green) at first it was milky and then it was a bit orange and then this morning it was bright, liquid-y red. She also had what looked like hiccups this morning. And she also makes random little squeaks. They're not normal squeaks, they're mad/discomfort squeaks. But I watched her pee/poo and she didn't squeak so I was going to get her checked out the next vet trip which evidently will be tomorrow at 10:20am.
Can anyone tell me what I should expect? Also how much I should expect to pay? She still eats and drinks and wheeks for food(that's why the appointment is tomorrow.) Also please send healing vibes Callies way!

:D It does sound like Callie has a problem in her rear end. This may be in her urinary tract or her bladder or womb. Was the red urine watery and diluted or thick red like blood? Red veg does not colour the urine to a great degree, and it will usually be a very diluted colour in that case. It is good that you are getting her checked out. The Vet should take a urine sample and do a Litmas paper test to see how much blood there is in it. He will also palpitate Callies' belly to see if she has pain anywhere. He may want to take some blood for testing. I can't really tell you how much it will cost. Vet prices vary so much. Hope all this helps, and good luck at the Vets. :tu::tu:

Thank you very much. Its very red, its not dilated. My best bet is blood. I can take a picture of the shavings and post them. They've got red on them also.

If its any help, lm sure you can buy the test strips off ebay, (cost no more than £10 ) then you could do your own tests (not a subsitute for a vet test )
But it may help to put your mind at ease

Reagent 9 urine test kit !

It is most likely a UTI but your vet will need to rule out bladder stones. If it is a UTI the vet will give you a course of antibiotics (Septrin is most effective for a UTI) and hopefully pain relief. If she is on antibiotics she will need probiotics at least an hour after each dose. At my vets the appointment would be about £15 plus the cost of the meds but vet prices do vary a lot.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I'll definitely let you all know how it goes tomorrow!

Sounds very much like a urinary tract infection. Hope she feels better soon. I have a little piggie with a nasty urine and/or kidney infection at the moment, she sends your little one piggie kisses.

x

Good luck for later today, let us know how she gets on x

Sorry for the wait! I had work right after the vet.
So they did an xray and she said Callie had no bladder stones, however her bladder looked full of what she called "sloodge" which could very well be infection. She gave me something that says Chloe Parm Susp and Callie need 0.5ml every 12 hours for 7 days by mouth.
Also the xray caught what the vet thinks is arthritis in her back right leg. For now it doesn't bother her but as soon as it does I'll bring her back in and my vet said that she'll be put on meds for cats because there's none for piggies at this time.

Hi, thanks for the update, ! Glad there were no stones ,
Its typical but sad there are never any meds spesificaly for pigs,
Let us know how she gets on with the meds !
