is it ok to give them some? i just read it and never thought you could give it to them? one of my pigs is been rarther quiet for a few days now, still eating /drinking fine think he is slightly under the weather:( wondered if it may help

I've never heard that you can give calpol to piggies or even any animal actually. I think it's only for human/children consumption really. But lets see what other's say

In emergencies if you're sure that your pig is in pain, it's fine. If a pig is under the weather it's best to find out why instead of giving them calpol just in case.

For example: I gave a pig calpol after a surgery when that vet didn't supplement his post-op care with pain medication until I could get metacam from them the next day.

Just out of interest - how much would you give them? I would like to know so i have the knowledge in future.

I couldn't get my vet to give my Fritz any pain killers after he had a lump removed - and i wished i could do something for him.

The dose for children's Calpol or childrens Nurofen is 0.2ml. I give that dose twice a day.

I prefer meds made for animals but many human meds can be extremely effective.

Calpol is a good pain-killer.
Buscopan is not a pain killer but in cases of bloat or cystitis it relieves muscle spasms which in turn cause pain.
Both are over the counter drugs.

Metacam and Rimadyl are prescription only drugs and are pain killer/anti-inflammatory drugs.

I did find metacam online somewhere, cant remember where - think it may have been 'in house pharmacy', not sure :{

They didn't need a prescription but were charging £30ish for a small bottle rolleyes
