i knew i came to the right place to learn what i need to know number one DONT go searching on the internet on guinie pigs! it will drive me nuts! simply enjoy your new family members i can watch them all i want but dont look for signs of something wrong and IF i have a concern i can ask here...i shall try not to annoy anyone but i do love talking about my 2 new animal babies i'll try to take pictures of them and there home and put them up and if you see anything i should change I'm sure you will all let me know hawkeye is dozing near the one of the food bowls and hotlips has come out of the hidy and is eatingand exploring or just running around lol good heavens hotlips is siting in one of the food bowls while eating out of the other lol well some animals need to walk over the food before eating hawkeye is snuggling hotlips while she s eating she did poke at one of those cloth things for a minute tmarrw i will get the small animal comb and give hawkeye her first grooming i have a soft one i can use for hotlips ahh its good to see them getting along so well hawkeye is now enjoy some hay i think they are settling in and beginning to feel at home hidys to hide in food water tolit paper roll and toy on the side and each other to love and be friends with I'm glad hawkeye is beginning to be a little more active i dont think shes done griving but shes working through it and beginning to show a little more intrest in things and has eaten a bit more today and this evening i'll just leave them both be for the rest of the night hold each one once tomarrow and start on a regular routeen for them which will basical be making sure they have food water hay toys some bonding time with me and freedome o do what they want in there privit corner of the world any suggestions tips or observations that i might be doing something wrong is welcomed so i can correct anything that needs to be orrected.
 
dont want to put to many post on here just want to say i found the turtorl for the hay bag as an old crafter in several different medums i cant wait to make one or should it be two... are there anymore project patterns here that i can download and make? also anyone who isnt a crafter i would be more then happy to make a haybag for anyone who wants one no charge just pay the postage to get it to you.... it s the least i can do for all the advice and helping me keep my piggys safe and happy and to keep me from harming them in some way

Hello I tend to have 2 hay trays for my 2 guinea pigs - they love to burrow and sit in them as well as wee and poop in them 😂
I think hay racks and hay bags aren’t recommended on here …there is always a risk of injuries with them
I’m glad Hawkeye and Hotlips seem ok together 🥰
 
thank you for the welcome and the infomation! iv looked at a lot of the hay trays as a wood worker they wouldnt be hard to make my main concern would be what type of wood is safe for my little ones...it would be faster if i make one then if i order one on line...being a bairly functioning agoraphobic i seldom get out although my hubby will get me anything i ask for providing i can show him a picture of an item hes never even heard of befor more then likely if i know what kind of wood is safe they would mostly likely have both store bought as well as made by me ones....i have a tendcy to spoil my animal children regardless of kind... my dogs have a dog bone toybox i made for them full of toys they dont play with and the cat has tons of toys in the bedroom that is her domain including a queen sized bed lol at78 hubby sleeps in his lazyboy and besides having copd which makes sleeping my lazyboy easer i like being where he is a bedtime yes we can be considered odd at times but at our age we really dont care what other people think lol we just do us lol
 
Most people use plastic cat litter trays for hay. Easier to keep clean than anything wooden.

Hay bags or racks aren’t recommended because they remove the ability for piggies to play and get in amongst the hay and properly forage in it. That is why loose hay in a tray is always best
 
I don’t use a hay tray at all.
I just pile the hay in the middle of the cage so the piggies can play with it, eat it, wee and poop in it, create tunnels and arches with it.
Hay provides hours of endless fun as well as the biggest part of the diet.
 
ahh finally iv been doing something right from the start! since i got them and set up the playpen with the hidys 2 in there iv been putting the hay in a big pile in the middle of floor in the playpen theres 2 food bowls but only one bottle of water hanging on the cagei can fix that by simply putting a shallow bowl of water in the pen the only thing i have to figure out is a way to make a run for them that i can fold up when not in use so they have a place to zoom through a time or 2 a day...not enough space around here to keep something up all the time...thanks for the advice on the hay i only thought about the hay rack and such from some posts on here i cant find the posts i wrote in response but cant find the place on here where i read the two articals humm proubly for the best as i had never heard of hay racks or sacks until i read about them and the ONLY place i get info for my piggys here...well best get back to work around here houses dont clean themselves even if the dont they dont get very messy in the first place
 
An idea for an easy playpen is to use c&c grids and zip tie them together all except the two ends (so zip tie them in a long line). They then concertina up for easy storage. When you want the pen you unfold it,
Make it into the pen shape and then pop the grid connectors on the end two grids to secure it as a cage

A lot of us use grids from Amazon
You just have to make sure the grids you use have 9 holes. Anything less than that then the holes are too big and risk the piggies getting their heads stuck in them
 
i'll show spike your post so he can get some, they are in a large playpen now with 2 hidys fooitd bowls hay watr and a few toys it sits on the side of my chair so i can keep an eye on them i dont really need to as they get along well but i like it there anyway....so i just need to get the stuff to set up a run for them and what you suggested looks and sounds perfect! hes out working on fixing the outside light right now and after that hes going to rest weather helikes it or not 78 is NOT a young person weather he believes it or not
