I and my piggies have been following the progress of Cameo and Peggy after their spay and send love and healing wheeks to them both. x>>

Baby, our recently rescued pig (now called Bayleaf to join my Parsley and Poppy) was spayed around the same time (Thursday 22nd Sept). The vet found a tumour on her cervix too so that had to come out. Poor little scrap! After a night at the vets she's been home ever since: the wound is healing nicely, but I'm still giving critical care regularly. She's eating more by herself - only greens at first but now she's enjoying a bit of hay and more fibrous stuff. The diarrhoea and appetite improve as I gradually reduce her metacam, and though she's off the baytril I'm still giving her Avipro (probiotic). We're getting there slowly...

Get well soon, little Bayleaf (what a lovely name by the way!) x>> Sounds like she's been through an awful lot but great to hear that you're making good progress.

If you don't mind me asking, I'd be interested to know which Vet you use as I'm not far from you and am always on the lookout for good local piggy-savvy Vets.

It's lovely that forum members can help eachother when they're going through the same thing - as you've said, there are a few forum piggies currently recovering from recent spay ops (also Piggyfan's sow Marble). It's fab seeing the support and healing wheeks flying around back and forth! :)

Good to hear from someone local - thanks for the get well wishes.

For the last 16 years I've taken my pigs to Malcolm Paul at Elm Farm vets in Aylesbury, part of the Hampden partnership. He's the 'exotics' expert for the whole group. He's brought them through spays, hernia ops, you name it. He went out to collect dandelions and grass to try to get my Bayleaf eating after her op - he really cares about the animals in his care.

Healing wheeks to Marble too - sorry to have missed her out!

Thanks soozn. Malcolm sounds like a lovely Vet - I can't imagine many Vets going to the trouble of picking piggy treats to entice them to eat. Brilliant!

(I travel to a Vet in Surrey but do worry about travelling that far in an emergency. Had a terrible experience with my old Vet in Chesham and would hate to go back there again.)

I just thought to mention Marble in case her story was helpful to you in some way, and it helps to know that there are more piggies in the same boat - no need to apologise - it's impossible to keep up with all the threads!

Healing wheeks to Bayleaf, hope she makes a speedy recovery xx

Aww poor Bayleaf! At least the tumour was found and was able to be removed!

Hope she's recovering well! Keep us posted :)

Get well soon little one, keep us posted wishing wee Bayleaf a speedy recovery! :) xxxxx

HEALING WHEEEEEEEEKS AND GENTLE CUDDLES FOR BAYLEAF XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Gosh it sounds like it was lucky you went with the spay !
Well done for all the after care recovery love xx>>>

Bayleaf is outside munching grass with the other piggies. I'm still giving her critical care, though lessening the amount each day. She's more interested in the yummy leafy treats she gets between each syringe squirt and is most indignant if they don't appear!

Thanks for all good wishes - really encouraging!
