I've never really thought about it. My old camera had a flash but it was broken, so I never used it.
My new camera came today and it's got a pretty flashy flash. @)

I'm like sure it does but I'll ask this anyway:

Do camera flashes hurt the Guinea Pigs eyes?

As I said, I assumed so but I'd like to double check.
It's nice to KNOW for sure. That way I know and if anyone should ever ask me, I can help them.

Thank you :{

I try not to use flash whenever possible, but sometimes, on a dull, rainy day or in the evening, they just get up to some mischief and I can't resist taking a snap!

Usually, red eyed guinea pigs are more light sensitive than dark eyed.

I don't know if it does or not, but I don't really use it for piggies. Daylight always seems to produce better piccies for me. xx

I try not to use flash, I don't even like the pictures taken with flash, but couple of times I've just had to when they've been moving around and I just get a picture full of blurry piggies :))
All I can think of is that they might get a bit scared of it and they might feel the same as if somebody takes a pic of you with very bright flash, it does hurt the eyes a little doesn't it :))

Yeah. I guess it doesn't seem wise.

Thank you. I'll only use the flash if I'm in serious need of it.

I don't want my piggies getting mad at me :{

I avoid flash wherever possible too. I never do photo shoots with flash, I wait until it's a bright day and rely on natural light.

My camera has a fairly flashy flash too, it hurts my eyes so I really, really hate using it for the piggies.

In any case, my red eyed pigs look like little devils whenever I use flash. Not the best look!

Demon piggy!

For some reason, when it's a Guinea Pig...That STILL sounds cute. @)

It's weird, the things we think about at such odd times.
I've taken tons of pictures of my pigs, but because my old camera was busted up, it never occurred to me about the flash.

I am quite glad you guys are really clued up on piggies because you know...I always thought I knew a fair bit but when stuff like this comes up...You realize that you don't know that much at all.

I am so glad that I have you guys to fall back on at times like this.

I know it's soppy but joining here is one of the best things I have ever done :<>

Hear hear!

You know where I learned much of what I know? Guinea pig forums! I first joined a forum four and a half years ago and I've been a daily visitor/poster on a wide variety of forums since. I have a few formal studies ongoing so some of it is learned through studying, but really, you learn best through personal experience and talking to others who are experienced. I find one of the best things about forums is you can learn the majority opinion. I never rely entirely on one persons view. I like to get a number of opinions, go with the majority and then shape my own advice from my own personal experience.

And don't ever question how much you know. Whether we have a vast knowledge, or just a few little tidbits of information, it still matters. Who knows, the bits and pieces that you know may well be things that those with a lot of experience knows nothing about!

In any case, there is always more to learn. Nobody can ever know everything there is to know.
