To cut a long story short, my 7 year old sow Fudge is terminally ill. I moved out of my partners house september last year, and back with my parents. My last place had grass in the garden, my parents gardens are all slabbed over.

I'm trying to find somewhere with grass (thats safe for the piggies) where fudge can feel the grass under her toes and enjoy a good munch at it. I'm in rutherglen, glasgow.

I know its a longshot- i just dont want her to miss out.

I have my parents house but the dog gets out there so it's not safe. I've been letting mine on the balcony and just growing grass for them. That way they still get too enjoy the sun.

We don't have any grass we can access outdoors sorry :(.

@lisaali @Caron's Cavies I'm not sure how far away from Glasgow they live though.

May be if you can't find anyone with a free garden, you could try @flintstones suggestions and grow some grass as the next best thing.

My grass was unfortunately waterlogged when we had the floods and has been ruined so we are having to treat it with chemicals to get it growing again therefore it currently isn't safe for the guinea pigs so I may have to grow grass in pots instead.

If you grew it in a large flat tray she could sit in it? I sometimes grow grass for mine too, especially after Tim's op as he had grass time when he stayed with Debbie.

How long does it take? She loves being outside but her wee ears catch the sun (she never stays in the shaded area of the run- always the sun!) so shes only out for about 15 mins and she gets sun lotion on her ears. Its scorching in glasgow today!

I'm going to pets at home today to get her lots of toys and grass houses for floor time- theres a b&q there too. Any particular brand of seeds @helen105281 ?

Think iv found a spot! A wee grassy area with a conker tree that i used to play in as a child! The neighbours used to moan about it back then but I'm hardly gonna swing from trees now! Its fenced off so relatively safe as far as foxes/cats are corncerned. Only problem is the council has just cut the grass and dont clear up all the loose cut grass. If i clear an area and move all the loose grass with a small rake, can i use that grass? I can easily carry the pen and the girls stuff over and its really quiet there so shouldnt have anyone bothering us x

@Adelle
:(oh sorry, hate to spoil the fun, conker trees (horse chestnuts) i think are poisonous to guineas.

I wouldn't use the cut grass either as it will start to decompose & start a chemical change as soon as it is cut with a straight edge (mower, etc) & the trimmings may have unwanted bits of plant cut up in it :(

i would try growing it as the others suggested it ---- or see if you can cut a turf from a friends garden (instant grass:whistle:) & buy a big plastic tray so she can sit on it & you can water it, to look after the grass etc.
Wilko Potting Tray

or a plastic "boot tray" i think they are called, i got a cheap one from "the original factory shop"
about £3, its about 100cm x 30cm... lots of room for grass :)

these furballs are so spoilt.... only having the best!:luv: xx

The grass was cut this morning @GPTV and iv raked all the lolse stuff away. Theres also no conkers as its not the season for that yet.. Would it be okay? I'm just about to move them over to the pen all set up :-(

i definitely wouldn't use the clippings (the grass being cut shouldn't make a difference its only the clippings that are risky) & make sure there are no leaves or twigs from the tree on the ground, if its only a small area of the run to check & you are going to be supervising hopefully it should be ok? xx

Yeah i meant the actual grass i wouldnt feed them cut grass.

Deciding not to risk it. Back to the drawing board. Poor fudge is all sun tan lotioned up and ready to go :-(

can she go outside on the patio slabs? now she has her lotion on? put a fleece on the floor just in case the slabs are too hot, at least she can have some sun - even if the grass is a sticking point :(

... i feel awful now, i've deprived her of some grasstime fun :soz:
xx

I think ours were just grass seed from the Range but the hay experts sell some animal ones I think or Zooplus.

If i buy ready made turf and large trays, make some drainage underneath, put her in the tray and let her eat the grass then spray with water a couple times a day in the hope it regrows- would that work?

Hi Adelle, I'm tagging @Harry&lloyd as I remember her from the Glasgow meet last year so might be able to help. I hope you are able to find some lovely munchy grass for little Fudge x

I meant to say that I'm sure Fudge will find some grass to much and walk around in soon, one way or another. I wish I was closer; mine have been sleeping in the run....it's too hot to eat.

The lawn needs a lot more 'mowing', so they'll have to work harder!

Can you get Readigrass ? It's organically grown dried grass and smells pretty good. You can also get dried green oats from the same company. My eight rally like bothand they scatter them all over their hutches.

What a lovely thing to do for her! She will enjoy that and in a nice and shady area too, if you want as an extra treat for her I'd be happy to send you some milk thistle seeds, some timothy grass seeds and some clover seeds you can grow in pots for her they're really quick growing just pop them into some pots with soil and water, pop in a plastic bag and put on a sunny windowledgge they will be ready to feed in about 10 days, just pm me an address to send them to and I can send them on Saturday xx I'very just found some ribwort plantain seeds too a bit slower to grow but u could scatter some on her turf xx

Glad to see yo got something sorted. My grass has just been cut so wouldn't be much fun. I have an abundance of fresh dandelions though :)

that looks great ! i feel guilty now for not putting mine outside today as we have a HUGE garden ! But my son has been poorly so had to look after him...... hope fudge enjoys her garden ! x
