My piggie Pandora has had a UTI and been on septrin and metacam for the last 2/3 weeks, her antibiotic ends sunday-
shes had a scan- no stone, but shes still squeaking when peeing-

this is her test strip from just now - am i reading correct this means she still has blood in urine?

thanks in advance -

Please can you post a pic of the pot too. Looks like the end square is positive which can indicate infection too. What antibiotics has she been on?

the pot of urine? If so i used a syringe to collect it from the tray she was in and put a drop of urine on each bit as didnt have a pot large enough to emerce the whole thing as only a smal pee, do u mean the test strip indicator?

Shes been on septrin 0.6 twice a day.

Yes I meant the indicator. On mine it is on the pot of sticks. Looks like blood is still there. Would your vet consider extending the septrin course?

Assuming they are Combur test sticks

Leukocytes are as high as they can get!
Glucose is hi
Ketones is an unusual color ?
But test stiks are often incorrect! usual way to do it is to do 3 or 4 seperat tests

I called up vet... they will prescribe more septrin.
But Monday i need to do a sterlile sample (collecting pot from vets) and they will send of for analysis to check septrin correct antibiotic.
Also they suggest maybe a re scan soon as a stone could have formed in a few weeks or missed stone from last ultrasound.
My poor baby. :-(

Thanks for help- just thought I'd update you on what bet said on phone.

Thought id update-

The urine cultre didnt show any bacteria growth- but they said this could be the sample was not enough or a problem transporting it-to be honest yesterday was a long day so didnt take it all in when the vet called. Either way vets a bit lost as to why Pandora is still wheeking when peeing - usually in the evenings ( she has her metacam in the morning with 1st antibiotic)- especially as last scan was clear of stones etc.

Pandora is now on Enrobactin as of today- (a new form of Baytril- that is diluted 1 part to 4 of water- she hates it lol )- with meloxaid aka metacam- if no improvement by end of next week- vet is going to refer me to an exotic vet or sugest we re scan- which ever of the two i would like of the two first- but i have a 3/ 4 week course of Enrobactin for Pandora to flush any nasties out- vet said we will review options next week- but he wonders if its a kidney infection and thats why its taking so long to clear.

Pandora is well in herself- eating- not loosing weight and poos normal- so am quite happy waiting- vet said obvs if shes getting worse bring her in- but shes been steady in how she is. I will dip her urine again next week to see if any blood etc.

anyway thats all for now. :)

Am I right in thinking looks like no change to me?
In herself she isn’t squeaking so much- I don’t seem to notice the squeaks anymore- just the odd one- and her fur is less puffy.

Yes indeed- she’s less Puffy and only heard a few squeaks this week- so am hoping it will just take a few weeks on the new meds.
Thanks for the reply Helen x x

Hi I did another urine test-
Am I correct in thinking no blood?

Thought id post an update, last week i called the vets and agreed one more week on antibiotic and painkiller and then take her off when i run out on saturday.
Saturday came about and she had her last dose of medication.
Sunday came around, and she was quiet most the day but didnt think too much of it- she can be quiet- but she was in her carrot cottage most the day and not out eating loads. By the evening- Pandoras fur looked puffy and she started crying when pee-ing. This whent on for a little while before i was sure it was when she was peeing- she kept lifting her back end up and crying- so i gave her a dose of metacam and it took about 1.5hours before Pandora was able to relax and lie down-she kept trying too before- but would just up and cry. (i was going to alow 2 hours and if no improvment would ahve called emergency vet- but she improved and relaxed)-
Shes now back on the metacam full time- spoke to the vet today and shs thinks a refural to an exotic vet (Anton vets)- i ahve been there loads of time before with past piggies with heart and thyriod issues- so know i am in good hands.
I feel so bad for Pandora- but today since being back on the meds her poos look healthier and also shes been out eating veg/ hay and pellets (She didnt eat pellets over night) but ate them today- she seems bright today so obviously the metacam is helping pain wise and no squeeks today so thats good.
Vet says i should hear from exotic vet in next few days as shes emailing today for me.
Feeling bad for poor Pandora, but pleased shes more comfortable today- but i want to get to the bottom of what ever this

It sounds like she has IC, just because no blood is showing doesn't mean she doesn't have a gritty bladder, the grit will cause inflammation of the bladder wall & pain. The Exotic vet may suggest monthly Catrophen injectons, which is what my bladder piggy had & they were quite successful, or you could try Cystease capsules. Unfortunately she will probably suffer with this for the rest of her life so a low daily dose of Metacam might help. We also used Cerenia for flare ups & antibiotics, Septrin or Marbocyl are usually the best ones for UTIs. Bladder sludge can be confirmed by an ultrasound scan done conscious. Also I would check her bottom in case a bladder stone has already been formed & worked it's way down, I've had 2 like this where the vet has removed them as they could be seen in the opening. You could also ask about daily Potassium Citrate once a sludgy bladder is confirmed.
