this is cookies rear end. it doesnt seem to bother her unless i poke at it in which she bites the thing nearest to her mouth (happened to be my sofa!)

she is still eating, drinking pooping normally. she is slightly more vocal and slightly more energitic than normal (she couldn't be less energetic she only used to move for veggies)

could it be caused by the fact she normally sits in her pee?

I have to agree it does look like Ringworm, on the bright side it's unlikely you will get it again as you've had it already, well so my vet said when we thought Milo had Ringworm. A Fungal Culture will need to be done to be sure.

i hope not lol it took me 5 months to clear up my ringworm :(

so vets for her tomorrow then bless her, it doesnt appear to be causing her problems.

any idea how long treatment takes and what treatments should be if it is fungal?

do i need to seperate her or would it not be worth it now?

Fungal?

I've had (rescue) guineas with fungal and am not sure if anyone has found Gorgeous Guineas? They do a marvelous range of really effective skin treatments, and I wouldn't be without their ranges of melts and shampoos. Chrissie will also help out on diagnostics (although always noting that a vet should be consulted if in doubt) and will help with advice. I really really recommend a visit to their site just google gorgeous guineas - based near Reading, Berkshire.

oh gawd... i had ringworm not that long ago and it is a pain in the butt...!
stupid dog stood on my foot...!
treatment totally depends on how bad it is... cream and oral medicines... i think are the most common...
if shes with other piggies i'd reccomend taking them all in to be looked over just incase its spread... unfortunatly it is easily spead...

No point - if it is Ringworm you'll have to treat everyone. My vet gives Imaverol for ringworm it's for Cats and Dogs. It depends I'll hazard a guess at 3 weeks, it may not be ringworm I know me and the vet both thought Milo had ringworm the only weird thing was it was Symmetrical which is why we did a culture and he turned out to be negative but it did save me a lot of bathing which was a bonus :). x

thanks i have emailed chrissie before and i have Manuka and Neem Shampoo i used it a few weeks ago. so might try that again.

i wont seperate i dont think she would like it.

thanks, i knew you would give me an idea. ringworm and mites look similar to me.

Is that a picture of her rump taken from above....or of her underneath/tummy?

If it is of her rump (near her grease gland?) it is not likely to be urine scald.

It looks like there is fungal involvement but this could be on top of something else that has created the right conditions for fungus to grow (and I am mindful of two cases i have seen on forums recently) so I would suggest you take her to a vet for a proper diganosis rather than trying to self-treat as it could be an oral antifungal would be best in view of the size of the lesion(s) and maybe, if it is her underneath then urine scald could suggest another underlying problem that needs to be treated.

I think it is a fungal infection or mites. Whatever it is take her to the vets and I'll keep my fingers crossed! :(

thanks its her bum :(

going to the vets tomorrow earliest appointment i could get as I'm at work, however the boss is going out later so may see if i can get in earlier :) will keep you updated.

its also possible she has a water infection which has caused a urine scald which has now became fungal.

to be honest i have used GG products on fungals and found it only helped in very very mild Case's not cases as bad of a lesion as this.

Malaseb i swear by its fab. BUT you would also be worth getting a urine sample to take along the vet too to get tested in-case she has a water infection.

sit her in a tub a clean sandwich one, i use and once weed i draw it up via a syringe and store in the fridge and take the vets asap to dip stick test x

ok been to the vet. not the most helpful. she says it has signs of both mites and fungal so treating both(i think).

have antibiotics (baytril) twice a day.

hibiscrub to bathe the area daily, and xeno 450 treatment.

Hmm, your vet doesn't seem very Cavy Savy.

Hibiscrub does help fungal but I don't believe it will cure it.
Xeno will treat mites
Baytril - that will treat an infection.

Doe's she have an infection? Did she do a urine sample, fungal culture, Skin scrape or Sellotape test?

did she do any skin cultures...?
i'd be inclined to get a second opinion...
do they think shes infected then...?
x

baytril isnt really used in fungal infections unless there is active infection in the fungal sores, which there doesnt seem to be. in which case i would use surolan from the vets not baytril.

personally if there isnt infection i wouldnt use baytril as it can mess their gut up.

ideally you need malaseb shampoo from your vet bath every 5 days for 3-4 treatments.

hibiscrub is useless for fungals like this and drys the skin out loads and they can infact get a little sore using this as its a antibacterial hand wash used for humans and is a little harsh for guinea pigs.

canerstan 1% used for humans will be ok to use too twice a day until the hair is regrowing but still continue to use for a week after to be safe.

Nizoral shampoo can also be used which again is used for humans, you can bath her in this every 5 days for around 3 wks.

are you keeping her hair cut short around her bum area? and are you cleaning out the wee area daily?

also does she always seem to be damp on her private parts?= water infection

does she wheek while passing wee or poo?

the xeno 450 treatment did they tell you you will need to go back in 7-10 days for another treatment and again 7-10 days after totaling 3 treatments, as they must have 3 treatments as the eggs cant be killed off this is why 3 treatments need to be done, as you will only be starting the full course a few weeks later when she becomes even worse with mites if she only has 1 treatment, ideally i would have recommened injectable ivermectin for mites when there is fungal present.
