I went to the doc on Wednesday he said I have a respiratory infection, I am on antibiotics so I'm assuming bacterial. I've been trying to limit my contact but I'm the only one who cares for them I haven't held them since Sunday to try limit spreading it too them. can I hold them or not? if not for how long?

I don’t know about uris in humans but I know if you have a cold/flu you’re not supposed to have much contact with them when you’re in the highly infectious stage. Its very rare but guinea pigs can get ill from that.I think as long as you wash your hands you can feed them but I would hold off holding them for now.

Guinea pigs don't catch our normal colds and flu, but we still recommend to please use commonsense and stay as off hands as you can with washing your hands before handling anything in contact with them.

Someone I know recently lost 2 of her piggies from Strep, which we can have. There are some bacteria we get that can make them very sick, I usually wear a face mask if I'm ill just to be sure. Good basic hygiene and not directly coughing or sneezing on them should be enough to keep them safe.

Thank you, I’m finished the antibiotics on Tuesday should I wait an extra week before handling? Thanks

If you are still coughing and sneezing, then please don't get up close. Otherwise follow the hygiene tips in the guide (thorough handwashing before and after).
I would recommend to leave your piggies on your lap and not to give them kisses and snuggles near your face until you are fully well again.
