Can Guinea Pigs Cause Health Issues

Be polite with your SIL, but let her see how much fun your piggies are. Point out how well your piggies are kept in accordance with current welfare recommendations without going overboard (just say that you have done some careful research into all the new stuff that is now around), what the new bedding does and how more interactive an indoors cage is. Hopefully, she is more clued up on rising standards in animal welfare! ;)

Thanks, this SIL I get on the best with out of the whole family and she is probably the one who is most animal friendly. It is more that she will go back and probably mention (not maliciously) the new piggie setup. It is quite something! They are ever so happy in it though and so much more active. My OH has seen a huge difference in them and that will help if MIL happens to bring it up with him. They spent about 8 months last year inside in our spare room with reasonably large pens (though not C and C), but the living room is much better as we see so much more of them. This conversation has definitely reduced my stress on this issue! I can't exactly rant to my OH about it so this is better! I have a friend who keeps two bunnies free range indoors, she is my other pet discussion outlet. :drool:

Enjoy your weekend and take your strength in that you not just know it yourself, but that your piggies are showing you clearly that you are doing the right thing. ;)

PS: You don't have to go overboard quite as badly as I have eventually done with taking over half of our large lounge... I pretend that I have saved it from being invaded by lots of model railway trains!
My poor old MIL thankfully (for her own peace of mind!) never got to see it; I was up to less than half the number of piggies the last time I she was still able to travel here 6 years ago.
Better not show it to your partner, either - it is the result of a decade's campaign work to finally realise my very long held childhood dream. :whistle:

You make me laugh. If she sends her there can mine go too?!

I hate it when relatives interfere, especially when they are not the ones living there. If Guinea Pigs could cause health issues other than Allergies then @Wiebke would have been in the ground decades ago from sharing her house with so many! :)
 
I love your setup @Wiebke ! It looks fantastic.

So the SIL has been here all weekend, apparently MIL doesn't think small animals should live indoors because of the smell (in this new C and C, I haven't done anything but spot clean since Wednesday and there is literally no smell). Dogs smell more! (I also like dogs but just going to point this out). They don't have a dog but it is widely accepted that most pet dogs live in their humans house and they are no different in accepting dogs in houses. SIL said she cannot smell the piggies at all and that they are the happiest she has ever seen them, she also said her parents are judgemental and that it is not their decision. It's all gone very well, and at present, there are no plans for MIL and FIL to visit so all will be peaceful for some time!

Glad that you have got your SIL on board. Old uninformed attitudes die hard. :(
