My two year old plants have produced a handful of little red gooseberries, but not really enough to do anything with.

I'm wondering the same as sport_billy! are they goodberries as they are normally green, never come across them in a different colour :hmm:

Gooseberries come in both green and red, depending on what colour fruit baring tree you have bought. Young red fruit gooseberries start out green too and then turn red. I have one of each :)

We have recently made a few bottles (gallons!) of wine from gooseberries, held a few back for the piggies. They just turned their noses up at them and demanded strawberries instead! Fussy so and so's, but you gotta love them! :luv: Little George was like a vampire afterwards :))

No problem. My piggies aren't too fussed over gooseberries too. They can be quite bitter at times :)

@sport_billy Still bubbling away mate. I can't bottle it just yet, or else..... KABOOOM! (and lots of spillage :( )

I used to give the odd gooseberry to some of my previous piggies, and they enjoyed them. More than we did, I think. We planted two very heavy cropping bushes in a mega flush of enthusiasm for growing just about everything, and then discovered that we didn't actually like gooseberries very much. We ended up getting 40 - 50 lbs off those two bushes ("Invicta" for anyone who's interested - resistant to mildew, too!) Maybe I should have taken a leaf out of @Tim 's book, and made wine out of them!

This. Also, the red gooseberries are somewhat sweeter and can be palatable enough to eat unprocessed. Gooseberry fool is good!
