I have a 6 month old piggy and he loves grass! He'll eat a circle around him when I take him out on our lawn. We don't use pesticides or weed killer. It's just grass. But is it ok for him to eat it?

Yes they can. I put mine out just so they can have a munch on the grass. Some people even grow grass in pots so they can have some in winter. It helps keep their teeth short.

Hi and :wel: To this fab helpful forum

I will be honest I don't know how long they can stay out on the grass for someone will soon help with this, mine get appox one to three hours max each afternoon on my lawn. Do you have a dog? As the dog urine on the grass is not good for the piggies. It's good that you don't use any weed killers etc natural is best if poss just move their run each time you give them lawn time always making sure they have their water on the run, places to hide and make sure there is shaded for them :)

I have 9 Saint Bernards lol they sometimes use the grass, but not often since they're killing it. I keep Django out there for like 30 minutes or until he climbs up my shirt and starts squealing. He just sits there and eats the grass lol I just want to make sure he won't get sick from it

Oh my word then I asked about dogs I expected you to come back and say a yes a cocker, jack Russell or a lab not 9 Saint Bernard's! oh my goodness that sounds like a handful lol.
Can you keep a small area of your grass dog free? As the dog urine is quite harmful to piggies I've read on here a few times (I don't have a dog so Its there not posts which I read in full sorry)

I don't have a dog either but I read in other posts dogs urine is poisonous to piggies so id say essential you keep a bit of lawn with no dog access allowed for your piggie.

Our piggies are out all day on the lawn as long as the weather is not too hot, too cold, too windy or too wet so I don't think there is a maximum time. There is a thread worth reading though about feeding grass and lawn time http://www.theguineapigforum.co.uk/...-preparing-your-piggies-for-lawn-time.111794/.

Is your piggie living alone? If so would you consider getting him a companion? If he has been neutered you could get him a female companion and if not you could try boar dating at a rescue to find a boy he will get along with. Piggies like company from their own species and he might like it especially given you've got other pets too. You can get either from a rescue. Try the rescue locator on this forum. That's what I'm going to use if/when we want to get any more piggies.

:agr:

Piggies can definitley munch on delicious grass, as long as its free from dog urine.
