Long story short Waffle went to the vets this morning to have an abscess drained and we have come back with antibiotics to ensure it doesn't come back. I also took one of my rats today and he got antibiotics as well. They each have different ones and I am sure that rats can have baytril or septrin. I just wanted to check because I can't remember which but I know there are some drugs piggies are not allowed but i am pretty sure pigs are ok on baytril so I was thinking i can swap them if need be. Thanks :)

ETA: also does anyone know roughly what kind of dose to give of septrin (the adult one- banana smell) He is just under 1kg. I suspect vets dose may be too low.

Yes they can have Septrin. My Star is on it at the moment. The best antibiotic for an abcess though is Zithromax. Anything Penicillin based is a no no.

My Rebel had it when he got an abscess after his castration. ;)

Septrin works for us Fluffy was on 1ml twice a day. She is a very lightweight piggie her weight is .635 She hates the stuff but cant tolerate any others. We had a little boy called Rhino who was on long term Septrin and he loved the stuff, he would stick his head up and just take it as if he was having a choice piece of carrot.

That was Rebel, he'd lay in my arm and open his mouth ready to take the syringe! :D

Are you sure that the dosage was 1ml twice a day, that seems quite alot, my piggy marigold weighs 956 and was given 0.4mls twice a day.

Yes, she was a very very poorly little girl it reduced to 0.8 twice a day after a while. This was and is for an ongoing breathing problem but her usual dose for UTis was lower, i just gave the max amount to show how safe it has been for us.
