We have family in Melbourne, australia and we're going to visist in the summer. if my dad likes it and can get a job we are going to live their and he'll apply for a visa and get me into a school, our uncle will be letting us stay in one of his houses. the only problem is my pets, i couldnt stand the thought of them going to a rescue not because they're bad, but because i love them too much to leave them behind.

can guinea pigs also immagrate to forgien countires?

(ps. we might be moving this is not definet, we might not be moving its a maybe )

You are not allowed to import guinea pigs into Australia I'm afraid. Same with other rodents (hamsters are actually illegal in Oz). Depending on where you take them to and if you want them to come home you may also face lengthy quarantine. :-\

What about New Zealand? We want to move there in the next few years. :D

:) NZ is definitely out. I had some NZ orphans in last summer. There are rescues out there but not many. It'll be a change for you LOL! ;D

They are banned because of the climate. The warm and dry climate of the majority of Australia means that any hamsters that escaped/were released would quickly colonise and drive out native fauna. Rather like what the non-native grey squirrel did to the red squirrel in the UK.

Hi i'm from OZ, ummm we have hamsters and gp's in abundance i've got friends who've got them, so i'd check out the regulations first sorry can't help you there.
Where in Melbourne are you coming too? I'm like 30 kilometers out of the city of Melbourne.
I can help you with some details if you like.
PM me about dad's work etc... give us some details.
From all i've heard it's really hard on the gp's to make them travel huge distances, you know what they're like
they stress soooo easily and they do need constant food and water. Sorry you'll have to make a decision :-*

When my dad lived in Australia, (He was 14) his sister had a shed full of guineas :S but then laws have changed since them with him now being 57 lol ;D hope everything turns out ok, i personally wouldnt want to put my lot through it especially Zub just gettting in a car worrys him!

Have a look at this site - http://www.deh.gov.au/biodiversity/trade-use/exoticanimalguide/list.html

Guinea pigs are legal though import is difficult. Hamster species OTHER than the Syrian/Golden Hamster cannot be imported legally and the import of Syrians is borderline. Laws differ on keeping them from state/territory to state/territory, though.
