I'm just wondering, but is it possible to get just one piggie for awhile to get used to them? I'm a first time piggie owner (to be) and I know they are social animals and live better in pairs, but would it be so bad if I just got one piggie? Then eventually introducing a friend? I kind of just want to get used to having a piggie (and I've found one that needs a home - a month old male) then maybe in a few months, up to a year, get him a male friend that is younger and slowly introduce them?

Or should I just go ahead and keep looking - trying to find a bonded pair to take home right away? The piggie that I found has been living alone already, so I didn't think he would be bothered too much. ?/

And I would definitely get another piggie in time. Just wondering if one is okay for awhile, to get used to having a new friend in the house?

From my own experience, when I bought my first duo, it helped one another when it became to being brave. My biggest boar was a lot more skittish than his cage mate and Ludwig, my smaller one, was a lot braver. By watching his brother, he saw that I wasn't going to hurt him because Ludwig was okay. Eventually after watching Ludwig, he decided to try and follow when Ludwig was getting food first and attention but he had been too scared. He's now the tamest out of my guinea pigs. So I think having two can help them feel safer around a person and realise that nothing is happening to their friend so they will be okay too.

If you really want the single boar though, you could always get him then try to find a single boar a few days later or wait until a duo comes available.
My third guinea pig, Romano, I had for a week before I got him a cage mate as he was a single piggie. I then asked on this forum that I was looking for a single friend and he chose Arthur. :)

I am not an expert but my opinion is that it will be fine for you to get this single boar and then, later on, introduce him to a younger boar. I have had single piggies before and they have been fine, although I have to say I had lots of quality time with them.
