I have not got any grass in my garden so was wondering if I could grow it in pots so then I could just snip it off when I want to give it Edward and Mrs Simpson ?

You certainly can. I would do it in seeds trays as you don't need much compost to grow grass - no point wasting it in a deep pot. I would have 3-4 trays on the go, rather than snipping it off just let the piggles eat it from the tray! They love it!

I have a big one of these which i grow grass in, that way i can pop it in the pen during floor time and they can have a little walk on it if they want to as well and feel the earth between their tootsies :) - getting them back off again sometimes takes some persuasion though as they like to lay on it.

Having 2 on the go is a good idea though that way when one is recovering from being squashed you can use the other one

Oh so you can use any grass seeds i was worried about chemicals in them

eek i hadn't thought of that I just assumed any grass seed would normally be ok as it can be used on any lawn and i grew it in a basic untreated compost. Mine didnt have any problems with that one i sent you though maybe some other forum members might no more?

Oh this is a great idea. My dad is a nature lover so always feeds the birds in our garden so theres nonstop seeds and things so I've always been wary as also it brings the cats in.

I might just grow mine some grass instead.

@Pebble do those seeds come with something to grow them in? Also which one? There's so many types.

What a great idea! We have a dog, so grass is very limited. This way, they can have their own personal supply! Maybe a daft question, but where do you keep it, when not in use - outside?

This is a really good idea :). I don't have any grass either. Think I'll try this out :).

I was gonna ask the same thing lol

I've planted some seed today in a tray and also as recommended for growing salad crops in a gutter. Used the seed which is discussed on other forums from Franchi for guineas, which looks like it has a lot of grass in it but will see how it goes. Also planted some chard as my 2 love it.

What a great idea.Would love to do the huge one so u could put it in the kitchen and let them run around on it but don't know where I would put two. Will have to rearrange my kitchen.Everyone we I'll think mad growing grass but loads of cats round my way and have two dogs.Could even put it on the concrete paths and make a run from spare grids

I grow stuff in my kitchen next to my big patio door it gets like a green house. I bought one of those big trays that people use for shoes / wellies etc.. and I pop seed trays onto it to save my floor. I then use the grown grass trays either in runs or in cages I prefer this to lawn time as they can have it more frequent when weather is bad. I have grown wild bird seed In past and they seem to like that too. Carrot tops are another winner you can put carrot tops on a saucer with water and they grow new leaves

Just been on shelled warriors eBay shop and bought their rabbit/guinea pig mixed seeds has anyone tried these?
