I found out that my guinea pig has static lice. I started her ivermectin treatment a couple days ago. Can I get her out of her cage and hold her? Or should I leave her in her cage until the treatment is finished? Thanks in advance to all who help answer.:(|);)

I'm not sure but I thought Ivermectin won't kill static lice as they live on the hair shaft?

I'm sure someone will come along with the correct info in a moment, I think to treat them you need to shampoo your piggy (as long as he/she is old enough) in Gorgeous guineas Lice n Easy or Flea or Die shampoo.

Static lice have never stopped me cuddling my piggies, they do not live on us hoomans :)

I agree with poppy'smum. Ivermectin wont work on static lice as they are not blood suckers.
It needs to be treated with a spray or shampoo. I will warn you though, static lice can be mighty hard to get rid of. My 4 have had them on and off for a while now and its an ongoing battle.

Thankfully they dont really harm the piggie :) I just hate seeing the things!

I would recommend Gorgeous Guineas shampoo too. It will get rid of the lice.

You can hold your piggies but they need to be treated with spray and shampoo.
