Can I make my Guinea pig sick ?

Hi, I've had flu for around 5 days And I was wondering if I could give it to my Guinea pigs? I'm their only caregiver so I would still have to be in some contact with them( cleaning out their cages , feeding etc) but should I still be cuddling them or should I avoid it for a while longer? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'm sorry that you're poorly
From what I know, it is unlikely for guinea pigs to catch the flu / colds but you are wise to wash your hands throughly before handling / tending to them and only handle them when necessary until you are better.

I’m in the same position with being laid low by flu or a similar virus. I am just making sure I use basic hygiene measures - hand washing etc before I cut their veg etc. I’m avoiding handling until I am recovered.

Thanks for your replies. I haven't been holding any of my pigs since Monday ( when I realised I was sick). I do however share a room with them. I have been washing my hands if I'm going to be in contact with them ,but I'm really missing my cuddles . And my skinny pig , Jeremy's desperate for affection, he usually comes out for at least 2 hours a day!

Please follow these simple hygiene tips and refrain from interacting with your piggies as much as possible while you are still in the acute stage and very weak as precautionary commonsense measure.
