Can I Teach My Boys To Use A Bottle? X

I got 3 boys last August. They were well cared for but lived in a big field. They had never used a water bottle. They have water bottles now but never use them and have a bowl of water.
I have a baby boar that will need to leave his mum in a few weeks if I put him with my boys he won't learn how to use one. Is there anyway I can teach my older boys to use it or is it too late? x x

Ideally your baby learns to drink from a bottle from the example of its mum, and may be even able to teach the boys. Otherwise he is more likely to imitate them. Please be aware that adding a fourth boy to a trio can unbalance it.

That's a thought about him teaching the boys well boy. I say boys as they are brothers but don't live as a trio anymore. A pair and a single so hopefully he can teach the single one. Thank you x x

Can you have the single boy live next to your youngster and his mum with interaction through the bars, so they can get to know each other and your boy can observe bottle drinking, especially if it happens by the divider? Single boars can live next to sows, just not bonded boar pairs. More tips in the guide.

yes I can do that. Not sure when they can actually meet without a divider as the baby is still tiny (80g ) and Tyrone is huge.
Also not sure if I am keeping the baby. My heart wants too but if he can get a good home I would rather he gets his own special slave x x

Let them meet with a divider first just as neighbours, but it would make intros and acceptance by Tyrone easier when the time comes for separating - and it would make the transition A LOT easier on your little boy if he has got somebody to take him on. Boars are often very gentle with babies and make wonderful "uncles" and "nursery nurses".

Tp be honest, if he and Tyrone click, I would leave them together. You may find that Tyrone is suddenly perking up a lot with a new live-in companion.

They are indoor cages at the moment just ordered a c&c one.
I totally get what you are saying and would cost the same amount to get Tyrone neutered as it would to buy them a c&c cage to live in. I am just worried that Tyrone is too dominant to live with another boar. X x

You can always discuss your issues with Stewy; he can give you practical help to see what is best for both boys. He even has offered to bond the two boys for you if I remember correctly? You will also have him as a back-up if things don't work out.
Just make sure that baby cannot get its head stuck in the grids!

Yes he did. Just waiting for him to get in touch so we can get the babies sexes for definite. I would love to keep him hopefully Tyrone will accept but like you say if things turn ugly Stewybus said he could find a home for him. Hopefully he will take the 3 girls too. I can't possibly have 11 guinea pigs can I? haha I'm going to turn into a mad guinea pig lady.I spend my life buying vegetables abd cuddly guinea pigs x x

I didnt realky think it would happen but sat having breakfast this morning a heard the water bottle rattle look over to see if it was one of the babies and it was Tyrone. 1st time ever he has shown any interest in it. Do you think it's ok to taje his water bowl out now? x x

Yes, the bowl is no longer needed unless you want to use it as a drip dish underneath the bottle!
