So I had a grocery delivery today and I'd ordered some spinach with it for the boys, but as I was putting it away I noticed that the corner of the bag had been torn, so the bag was essentially open. It's the sort of tear that could happen accidentally and I've been refunded the price of the bag but now I'm wondering if it's actually safe to give them. I realise I'm probably being paranoid and you're quite welcome to tell me that! But honestly, I'm not sure whether to chuck it or not.

I am really anal so I would chuck it, however to be honest I am sure it would be fine with a wash. It was probably torn in the shop or something. The leaves don't look off do they?

Most of it looks fine, and it definitely smells fine. Couple of the leaves look a bit wilted but no more than you'd normally find in a bag of salad leaves. But nothing looks "odd" about them I guess?

I would wash the leaves thoroughly and put in a salad spinner/tea towel and drain water ,it should be fine to use,ive occasionally bought bags that have a slight tear, all has been well.the packaging is very flimsy on most salad/spinach bags.

Quick rinse and I would happily eat them.
In my mind it is no worse than buying loose, un-bagged fruit and veg.
But maybe I jut have low standards :))

I'm going to do my :fog: bit again - in my day nothing came wrapped in plastic, everything was bought loose you took it home and washed it. Or in my case your Dad dug it up from the allotment/garden and it arrived home covered in mud. Wash it, pat it dry with a tea towel it will be fine. Just discard the wilted bits.
