Brownie has skin fungus again....I was given medicated shampoo-Miconazole but some of his spots are open, I think he has scratched them open. Will it sting his sores? I used cream on the spots I could get to but his fur is so thick I am afraid I am missing a good part of the fungus so I would like to give him a medicated bath. Also, where does ringworm/skin fungus come from? The other 3 are in a seperate cage and have no fungus. Brownie has not had it for at least 4 months and I had cleaned his cage thouroughly...Are some gp's just more succeptable?

Fungal probs come from spores in the air.

I have not used Miconazole, its too much of a 'heavyweight' for my liking so can't advise you there. Ask your vet who prescribed it or check out the ingredients and put them into google to see if you can find out from there.

Kamillosan (Superdrug/Boots) is good for relieving sore skin.
I use Gorgeous Guineas for my shampoo. Email them for advice.

It does seem that some guineas are either more susceptible or perhaps it isn't completely cleared up first time around. Fungal problems should not reoccur if they are treated correctly. I have been using Gorgeous guineas products on my guineas for 5 years now and have never had to revert to using 'veterinary' shampoo. I have a rescue and the majority of guineas are fungal. Try out a CocoNeem Melt and some Manuka and Neem shampoo , but contact Chrissie first if you're unsure. Contact details on site :)

Thank you...I was just looking at Gorgeous Guineas and I will try to order something. My vet was worried about how strong the med shampoo was too so she gave me cream but his fur is sooooo thick (rex) and it is hard to get to all the scaly spots. Thanks again!

I just checked out some products and will order Wednesday (payday) I wonder how long it takes to get from UK to US? I will feel better when I have some shampoo and creams on hand. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction.
