I’m not sure if I posted this in the right section. Please move to the right place if I made a mistake!

Anyway,
I know there’s Child Life brand that is recommended, but I don’t have any at my local store. I live in the US and only have Walmart. Yeah, sucks! So is it safe to use any human vitamin c drops? Or is it just a specific brand I have to use?

Also, how much should I give and how often to my guinea pigs?

Thanks!

Is there a specific reason you want to give additional vit c supplements? Normally they get all the vit c they need through the daily veg intake, along with the vit c in their pellets.
Adding the type of vit c drops that go into water isn’t recommended

:agr: Coriander (cilantro) and pepper are a good source of vitamin c, and you can feed them daily.

You have a beautiful guinea pig! I would not give any vitamin c drops at all. I would just stick to the veggies containing that vitamin others have listed above. You could try feeding Fennel/Anise. Not all guinea pigs might like Fennel though.

I think this poster has just lost a piggy to bloat, and has some other bloaty piggies, is that correct @retro ?
But I agree with the above advice that vit C should come from the veg in the diet. Stopping veg for 24-48 hours while bloat passes should be fine without needing supplements. Bell peppers are a very high vit C veg that are usually safe as a good first veg to reintroduce after bloat. Herbs like cilantro and dill should be fine too in small amounts if these werent foods that triggered the bloating. If you want to give a vit C supplement I suggest pro-C which can be bought online from Amazon or many pet supply places, as it is a pro-biotic with added vitamin C specifically formulated for puggies and rabbits- it will help rebalance the gut bacteria after bloat as well as providing vit C. But it isnt a long term substitute for fresh veg, just a supplement that can help in the short term. Please avoid human supplements, and also please be aware that like with humans, extra vitamins are only useful if there is a vitamin deficiency to start with- they wont cure or prevent any disease except in cases where there is a deficiency in the diet! I hope this info helps x

your info is very informative, thank you!
Yes, one of my piggies recently passed due to bloat or suspected bloat. Another is also suspected but he's going to the vet on Monday. The other boy I have is a baby and he's just fat. lmao. He's got a little belly but it's not hard or ballooned like the affected guinea pig(s) were. The vet will give me the knowledge I need, as I am still not as informed to food-wise situations and supplements or what have you. I was just starting a conversation about Vit C drop brands to use in case such things happen and I'm always looking to learn more about things. I know my piggies but you can never not have enough information. My piggies are off veggies for now, though I will start introducing them in small doses to some piggies that don't have bloat, just in case.. I got some really nice green peppers and going to feed small slices sparingly. :)

never even heard of that haha. I live in america so...yeah.

And thank you! He's one of four boys. :)

I was just trying to start a conversation about it. Wanting to learn more information in case bloat happens again. And I know about the drops in water, I don't use them and never will.
