After two blood tests, one urine sample and an x-ray, my 2 year old neutered boar Dylan has had the rather vague diagnosis of a low red blood cell count, alongside crystals in the bladder. He doesn't seem to be in any pain whilst weeing, infact the only symptoms he has shown is a low weight and drinking more than his girlfriends. The vet said they can lose the RBC's through the bladder, hence the anaemia, but there is no blood in his urine.

I've got going on a low calcium diet for him, and am keeping my eye open for a water filterer, but how low can I go on the calcium phosphorus ratio without risking further damaging him elsewhere? I'm using the thread on here on high and low calcium foods as direction, and he's on Timothy Hay and Burgess pellets, which are 8g/Kg of calcium.

Can these crystals in him go away with a low calcium diet? It's hard to get foods with high iron for his anaemia which also are low in calcium! I've never had a pig with crystals before, is there anything else I should be doing to keep them at bay? And as for the anaemia, apparently its quite rare in pigs, but any advice from experience will be much appreciated.

Thanks all :)
