So poor old Bonnie has been in the wars. She had to go into the vets to have her teeth filed down. Whilst she was there they identified that she's got ovarien cysts. Because of her age, I've decided not to put her through such an invasive surgery such as spaying and the vet instead suggested managing her pain with Metacam. So she's got to have 2ml twice a day poor thing.

Now it's not that she hates the taste of it. But she's not fond and I was just wondering if there was any other way I could get her to take it willingly. I'd rather not have to force medicine down her throat twice a day. Which got me thinking. Bonnie is a sucker for cranberry juice.

Is it okay to mix the Metacam with cranberry juice to try and make it taste better? Does anybody do this? I read online that it can reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics but what about pain meds?

Sorry it's long and thank you. I just want to make the poor darlings remaining time a happy and stress free one.

Hey. sorry to hear this. Has your vet considered hormone injections to shrink the cysts? Our vet has done this successfully in the past. Depending on which bit of staffordshire you are in they may be local to you

Can I ask is it cat or dog metacam? do you mean 0.2ml metacam? As 2ml is huge dose

I would also suggest she has Chorulon hormone injections to reduce the cysts, they are given a couple of weeks apart & are non invasive :) If it's cat Metacam then maybe get the vet to change it for the dog one as I have never met a piggy that didn't like that one :)

I haven't heard of that. I'll have a word with the vet and see if that's something they offer.

It's Metacam for dogs and yes I did mean 0.2ml oops haha

I know she's a funny sausage. All the others like it and Bonnie has a mega sweet tooth anyway so I would of thought she'd love it! Maybe her mouth is still a bit sore but she's eating fine now .....

Phew :) 0.2ml twice a day is standard dose. 2ml paniced me a little :))

I wouldn't mix the metacam 0.2ml is tiny amount of fluid just pop it in, by mixing it you could dilute it and lose some which wouldn't be good for pain relief plus it is harder with more liquid
As @Poppy'sMum has said the injections are Chorulon hormone injections.
