Definitely not canned oranges (or canned or frozen anything). I'm not sure about the oats, but hopefully someone else will be along later who can help with that.
They can eat oats (the original plain with no additives - sugars/salt etc - kind) but they are very fatty so should really only be given as a treat or as a means to help boost the weight of an underweight/unwell pig. It can also make your piggie very gassy which can result in bloat and other digestive issues. I give mine oats every now and then but sparingly just a sprinkling on top of their dry food.
No canned/tinned or frozen veg or foods because they are processed (i.e. often partially cooked)! Defrosting veg can also have bacteria mulitplying rapidly; frozen veg will easily rip the skin off lips and tongue while it gets nibbled or chewed.
Oats are best as a treat kept for winter; they are fattening and for piggies recovering from a illness or operation that caused a lot of weight loss.
Thanks so much! I will see if she will eats the oats as a treat. She can be very picky as Sophie will NOT eat bell peppers. I know that bell peppers are one of the best veg for your piggie. Is there anything with close to the same nutritional value as bell peppers? ~Thanks!~
Also, can my piggie eat peas? (Snow, Sugar, Snap, ect.)
I find that piggies can get a little picky and choosey about food so if you gave them. Othng else but peppers you might find they will eat them. I had a similar situation with oranges.
