Hello all

My name is Emma. I purchased a gorgeous male guinea pig today, called Graham. My 5 year old son is completely in love with him, as are we!
I just wanted to check that my veg meal idea for him tomorrow is suitable for him to eat.
Green beans and butternut squash? I plan to serve these with his favourite red pepper (according to the pet shop!)
Any advice/suggestions of food would be most welcome :-)

:wel: to the forum !

Green beans are OK if they are the dwarf/french variety . Peppers are a great veg to give as they are rich in Vitamin C - I advise you don't give red peppers all the time - green are better for them as not so high in sugar . Butternut squash is OK as a treat .

This is a good link ...

Recommendations For A Balanced General Guinea Pig Diet

I know it's not your question, but just wanted to ask if you already have another guinea pig and Graham is a companion piggy? If not, I really can't emphasise enough the importance that guinea pigs need to live with others of their kind. It's not fair to keep a solo guinea pig, even if you spend a lot of time with it as it will be missing out on vital interaction and companionship (hard as you try, you can't speak guinea pig!).
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but if not, please please get a male or female (if Graham is neutered) friend asap. Once you've got the one guinea pig, the costs for two will be virtually the same. His quality of life will increase massively.

Quite right to bring it up! We did ask this at the pet store and we're told that Graham has not got on with a companion. He doesn't like to share food and is happier on his own. Obviously we have taken the advice from the pet store.
