Sorry for your loss, I have just lost My Brodie (yesterday) cage mate to Rio ans am more or less in the same predicament although he does have the facility of being near too my other boys and they can kiss noses through bars my question is What are the signs to look out for for a pining piggy? I'm not ready to replace Brodie yet but I still need to do whats best for Rio
Hi Sara, very sorry to hear about your loss and also sorry for late reply! I suspect the fact Rio is close to other piggys will really help so you should be able to take a breath and not rush into anything. Fudge was totally on her own. She took to staying in her shelter a lot, still eating and drinking but a bit out of sorts. I placed a radio in the room and put a blanket over her shelter. Seemed more like herself after a few days. Hope that helps.

1 becomes 2! Just back from the local rescue centre and Fudge now has a new play mate Treacle!(picture to follow). There was 3 girls to chose from. 2 same size as fudge and one smaller. First big one was too aggressive but the little one was fine. They are in the same pen but We are keeping a close eye on them and will separate them when we go to bed and try again tomorrow but so far its looking good!

I'm so pleased to hear it went well . Did the rescue advise you to separate them at night ?

Which rescue did you go to ?

We went to Hull Animal Welfare Trust and no they did not. Its just a precaution. If it was just up to me I would leave them togeather now. If there was going to be any major fights I'm sure it would have happened by now.

Thanks for answer about rescue.

Guinea pigs an be very vocal when are 1st introduced so don't worry if they are noisy - they are just sorting out their hierarchy. I would only separate if you suspect a fight is brewing.

There not noisy really. Treacle is very quiet, they have slept next to each other for a while so I'm confident it will be ok in the end. Treacle has not been handled much in her life so is very skittish! will work on that later.
