I don't know that much about how STI's originate, but just wondering if they exist in the piggy kingdom?

My boar is neutered and is a virgin, so that means he wouldn't produce semen right? If he manages to mount my new sow, could he possibly transfer any nasties to her from his boarly-bits? Or vice versa.

I don't think so. But I'm not an expert. I think you should be fine introducing them as long as your boar has been neutered for at least 6 weeks.

I haven't heard of any piggy STIs although l am sure they exist, but likely only in breeding establishments (boo). The mounting and stress of bonding can sometimes trigger cystitis (honeymoon cystitis?) in either piggy, but this is not infective and should settle with time and metacam. Hope that they like each other!

They can get a form of chlamydia which affects their eyes and lungs but I'm not sure if it affects their bits like it does in people but infected people can also get it on their lungs and in their eyes too, I looked it up and it can lead to stillborn babies in Guinea pigs as I think it can in humans. Not sure if it would be classed as an sti though like it is in humans

He was neutered 5 months ago so he's all good to go! (Or not, depending how you view his situation!) They were introduced 5 days ago :)
I'm not huuugely concerned that he'll pass anything to her because he's never had the chance to mate with any other piggies... and his boar-bits stay pretty clean. It's more out of curiosity.

They seem to be doing quite well together so far! It's early days still, but I really hope it continues. I'm keeping a very close eye on them both!
