Can Piggies Tell?

Do you think piggies can tell the difference between fresh veg and processed veg?

When I say processed veg, I mean the type that you buy already peeled, chopped or sliced and in plastic packaging from a supermarket.

The reason I ask is because a couple of weeks ago, I bought a packet of cut carrots ready for cooking from Asda at a reduced price of 20p. My piggies didn't want to know!

Today, I tried Milly and Molly with sliced runner beans from M&S. Packaged again. Nope, M & M didn't want to know!

Do you think that pre-packaged, pre-ready veg has a difference taste? Does it have addictives etc included that we can't taste, but piggies can?

Any ideas?

I'd imagine it has something to do with the smell and flavour. Get a carrot and cut it in half, then smell the ends (strong odour), put it in a plastic bag in the fridge for a day or two, then sniff it again (much less odour). My son and I do experiments like this fairly often (the baking powder and vinegar remix was a really bad idea), so yes, there's definitely a change in the odour, plus it dries out a lot faster when it's pre-cut.

Spinach and kale can be washed and packaged without having to cut them up, though, so you don't get the overall increase in surface area that's exposed to the air. I always bought Pigglywink the pre-washed / packaged field greens and she loved them, and she loved pre-peeled and washed baby carrots, but wouldn't touch the pre-sliced carrots that I tried her on a couple time. But then, after I tried them after the second time, I can't say I really blamed her. Very dry, and a very woody texture.

well i got pre packed carrots for my 2 bots who love alone but my other 9 have the lose ones but sometims if there is some of pre-packed carrets lift i give them ot the others and there still eat them

all mine eat most stuff pre-packed or not

aprart from max he dont like much
