can pigs make you ill?

I was fine when I got the 2 boys but since I got the girls in Feb I've been really sick, my breathing has got worse my hayfever is worse and am always ill :( iKve changed their hay, changed from sawdust to fleece, steamcleaned the cages, bathed them with antibac shampoo but nothing worse, if I go near any of them I cough like crazy :( dunno what to do :(
 
I am really sorry to hear that you have been unwell :(.
I am the same with my piggies. They make my asthma worse. If their fur touches my skin I come out it terrible hives, but the skin on my hands just splits open.
Sorry but I haven't got any answers other than try antihistamines. Good luck and I will be reading this thread with interest.

I think I am allergic, gonna have a major spring clean and steam clean everything possible and see if that helps any, my mum has the same problem too so the cages are in my room
 
Is it just the girls who you have a problem with? IT could well be an allergy, do they have different fur? My friends hayfever gets alot worse when she holds the short haired piggies who moult but she is fine with the longer hairs :{

Oh no, that sounds really bad :( I know you probably don't want to, but would you consider keeping them outdoors? Maybe in a shed at night and in the winter? It must be really hard for you, and having them outside would be a lot easier, if nothing else helps.
 
I am exactly the same! I have bad athsma and my piggies do make it worse but I'm on ceterizine and it works magic! when i touch my piggies i come out in a rash aswell but it wont stop me handling them.... i think its the short hair piggies that effect you more as i have a long haired piggie and I'm fine wth her but peppa is short haired and i am very allergic :( x
