So I'm a new guinea pg owner; I've only had my Checkers a little over a month. Today while I was petting her, I noticed a bald spot a little behing her left ear that wasn't there before. So what I want to know is what should I do? Should I take her to see a vet? I'm new at this so please excuse my ignorance.

Are you sure it wasnt there before? All piggies have bald spots behind the ears... like this.... (they usually do a good job of combing their fur over it)
Is it scabby? danduffy? etc?

It's a little further back than that. There's still a little patch of hair, but it's otherwise a bald spot about the size of a dime about half an inch from the ear.

Is it red? itchy? sore? swollen? or anything nasty? Does your piggie live alone?

Ive just grabbed Pickle out for a quick snuggle and took a pic, does it look like this?

If its definatly just one side, and your piggie lives on her own. (if she lives with a friend there is always the possiblity that a chunk of fur could have been pulled out. Happens occationally) If she is on her own i would advise getting her a cage mate though, piggies are sociable creatures and thrive from one anothers company.
I would keep an eye on it. If it isnt red, sore and swollen then watch it for now. If she continues to itch constantly then pop her to the vets to have a look? Piggies will scatch behind their ears naturally (just like cats and dogs). but if she is excessivly doing so then get her checked out for mites maybe?

Alright thank you. I had purchased a roommate for her, but the roommate is a little sick, so she's getting checked out. She should be back in about a week.
